Shoes have captivated people since ancient times, evolving from barefoot to Roman sandals to military boots, each reflecting its era. Just as civilizations rise and fall, so do shoe styles. Here’s a look at footwear that has fallen out of fashion, alongside what’s trending today.
OUT: Gladiator sandals

There was a time when these were in style, but those days have passed and a new fresh look is in.
Keep reading to see what must be added and removed from your closet!
IN: Flat rounded sandal

OUT: Cheap rubber flip-flops

IN: Leather slip-on

OUT: Dad sneaker

IN: Retro inspired sneaker
If you want sneakers, go for these retro looking kicks that look so good with pants or shorts. These are super comfortable and will fit you well for those long days out.

OUT: The round toe

IN: Square toe
Cute, colorful, comfy. Plus they look way better than those round toe heels in the previous slide. Square toe heels are pretty popular too. And you can choose among different colors. Cute, right?

OUT: Wedge boot

IN: Lace boot
These elongate your legs and can give some height just like the wedged ones. Except these lace boots look so much more in 2023 and even 2024. These boots will go with dresses, jeans, and even shorts for a funky look.

OUT: Crazy patterned rainboot
These were a thing for a time with their bright colors trying to usher in the sun back again. But, no longer, time to put them away until they roll back into style again.

IN: Black chelsea style rain boot
The matte finish is more subtle, and the length doesn’t scream at people. The best part is that these are stylish and functional should you get caught in bad weather. And they’re not expensive

OUT: Anything “peep toe”
Anything that peeps is out. They were cool for awhile but these fizzled out in time for some reason. Maybe getting 2 toes freezing wasn’t fun.

IN: “V” accent flat

IN: “V” accent boot
Here’s another V this time as a boot. Cute, and even sexy, since they look so chic. Again, no toes are peeping but these just look so modern and stylish especially in this color.

OUT: Ballet flats

IN: Classic loafer

OUT: Sandals with skinny detail

In: Brown slip-on with square toe
The woven, knot-like buttery details finished in a nice brown color is the new “in” for 2024. And they do come in other colors, but that square toe finish just adds a nice touch of detail to the shoe.

IN: Ivory woven slip-on
Here’s another option with a nice woven detail as well, with the nice ivory white finish matching with anything you have on. Best part is these are not so expensive.

OUT: Peep toe mules
Peep toe mules have fallen out of fashion and are considered outdated. They’re pretty annoying to wear with pants, and just look awkward when matched with a skirt. Fashion trends change over time, and it appears that peep toe mules are no longer considered stylish or modern.

IN: “Puff” mule
These have that puffy woven detail to them, hence the name, without so much being like peep toes but these go so well with pants or skirts, and anything else you want to throw on.

IN: Strap mule
These strap mules give a hint of 90s nostalgia in 2023, and they are super comfortable and stylish to wear. Straps and heels are shorter so you can wear them casually or dress up a bit more and hit the streets in style.

OUT: “Perforated” shoes
Shoes with perforations, which are small holes or patterns, have become outdated in terms of fashion. They do boast detail but you don’t really see a lot of these being worn anymore.

IN: “Braided” detail
People love these so much that they are now available in so many colors. These have the same woven detail except they look dressier, perfect for more intimate plans or even dates.

IN: Slingback pumps
These are super stylish now, and to be fair, these slingbacks are a style that has made a comeback. They look great with jeans or skirts, and you can get them in many colors as well.

OUT: Flats
Flats are great, but is another look that has been overdone to the point that it looks tired. These are just shoes that have had their day but are better off left on the rack now.

OUT: Vans, Keds, or wedge sneakers
