Sometimes, taking your dog to the veterinarian’s office can be quite a chore. You’re going wrestle with your dog, drive to the clinic, and then emotionally convince your dog that it’s needed.
In Florida, however, the simple chore of bringing your dog to the vet became a matter of life and death for a woman.
The team from DeLand Animal Hospital thought it was just going to be a normal day.
Two of the staff members were chatting while waiting for clients to arrive. Then, as captured by their CCTV cameras, a woman walked up to the receptionist’s table.
The encounter was brief as it lasted only for a moment. Little did the staff members know, this moment will change their lives forever.
The woman slid a small note toward the staff members.
Then, she quickly went to the side as if waiting for the doctor to call for her. She can be seen nervously glancing at the receptionist’s table.
When she saw that the staff members opened the note, the woman quickly and subtly stepped away to prevent her boyfriend’s suspicion.
What followed was the longest 15 minutes in the veterinary office.
The woman then waited for the doctor with her boyfriend. After around fifteen minutes, five officers arrived and went directly to the office where the couple was waiting.
They quickly arrested the man who was identified as Jeremy Floyd, a convicted felon. The woman was trying to escape her abusive ways. The cops found a 9mm gun in his waistband.
The shaky handwriting on the note said: “Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun. Please don’t let him know.”
After he was taken away from her, the woman burst into tears.
She said her nightmare began two days ago when Floyd beat and threatened her during an argument. He accused her of flirting with other men.
When she found a chance to escape, she jumped out of the window. Floyd caught up to her, however, and dragged her back into the house by her hair.
She also said she slept for “22 straight hours” after being beaten which led her to believe that she was actually suffering from a concussion.
Two days after, she managed to convince Floyd to let her take her dog to the hospital.
He refused to let her go alone and all the way to the hospital, Floyd pointed the loaded handgun to her head and threatened to kill her and her entire family.
When they arrived, that was when the woman seized the opportunity to ask for help. The police said that the woman was obviously injured. Her left eye was swollen and bruised. She has lacerations on her hand and bruises on her arms.
Floyd, who has an arrest record from 1998, was charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and simple battery.
Watch how this simple veterinary visit ended up saving a desperate woman’s life.
