Many people expect seniors to just sit on the sideline at parties and events while the young folks head out and hit the dance floor. However, it’s a pretty ridiculous notion. Just because someone is of an advanced age doesn’t mean they should be left out of all the fun.
In fact, a lot of times, the elderly have even crazier moves than the youngsters.
It’s something that several couples proved first hand recently in an awesome boogie-woogie dance competition put on by Glass Zebra. The theme of the event was seniors only, and we have to say, it was one of the coolest competitions we’ve ever watched. It turns out, the only thing “advanced” about the seniors were their moves.
While all of the couples were pretty fantastic, the two individuals that stood out the most were Vyacheslav and Olga Mozzhechkovy. They were named the “Boogie Woogie Seniors Dancing Couple of the Year”, a title that was certainly well deserved.
Vyacheslav started out the performance by clapping his hands and shuffling around on the floor to get the crowd excited.
The couple chose to do their routine to the classic Chubby Checker song “Let’s Twist Again”.
Even though the track was written all the way back in 1961, it’s still just as fresh as ever. Pretty much everyone has heard it before. It is one of the most popular dance songs of all times, especially for those doing “The Twist”, or in this case, the boogie-woogie. Both styles are very similar.
“Come on let’s twist again,
Like we did last summer,
Yeah, let’s twist again,
Like we did last year”
Vyacheslav grabbed his wife’s hand and pretended it was a microphone as he lip-synced the first verse of the song.
Then, he immediately began spinning her ’round and round, and that’s when the real fun got going.
The two twisted and shuffled their way around the dance floor like seasoned pros, with an incredible grace that can only be achieved through a lifetime of dedicated practice.
Their smooth and effortless dance style isn’t something that can be easily taught.
We imagine the couple has been showing off in dance halls for decades at this point, all the while slowly perfecting their craft.
Our favorite part of the performance though was how much fun it looked like the two were having.
Throughout the entire dance, the couple boasted giant smiles that made it clear there was no other place they would rather be than in the arms of each other. When two dance partners are deeply in love with one another, it definitely shines through in a performance. Chemistry is something that can’t be faked, and Vyacheslav and Olga had it in spades.
While their routine only lasted about two minutes in total, it was more than enough time for them to demonstrate their talent to the judges and audience.
As they finished, the entire room erupted in roaring applause.
We have to say, after seeing these two show us their skills at that year’s Glass Zebra event, we will never think about senior dances the same way ever again. We always pictured them being much less exciting, but it just goes to show how wrong we were. We made the classic mistake of judging a book by its cover, and Vyacheslav and Olga Mozzhechkovy totally showed us up.
