I smiled through the whole video.

As a child, thereโ€™s nothing more exciting than a class without a teacher. The opportunities are endless: itโ€™s a once in a lifetime chance to have some fun with your friends, steal a piece of blue tac off the wall and get absolutely no work done.

But during these Covid times, school is a little different right now. And with many students attending virtual classes on Zoom, a whole new array of possible technical problems are introduced- with WIFI connection being one of the most common issues of them all.

So when students from a school in Texas found themselves without a teacher, it was up to them to decide how the rest of the class should take place. It was the perfect opportunity for the class to go wild, but thankfully, one sharp student spotted that the whole thing was being recorded, and made sure that everybody was on their best behaviour.

The 2nd grade class of Parkland Elementary school were having one of their online classes, when their teacher lost internet connection and dropped out of the call. Left to their own devices, the students discuss what their next plan of action is, which somehow ends in a conversation about toast.

At the beginning of the video, we see the moment that the teacherโ€™s connection drops, and she is taken out of the zoom call. There is a lot of confusion in the next couple of seconds following, with one of the students asking, โ€œGuys, what happened?โ€

โ€œShe left the meeting,โ€ another replied.

One of the students takes this as a perfect opportunity to hone in his singing skills, and begins to sing a little joyful tune, while the other students talk excitedly over each other. Itโ€™s not until one student in particular speaks, that everyone finally quietens down.

This girl appears to be the mature and authoritative member of the group, and she is certainly the student with the eagle eye.

โ€œAll of you guys, I see that thereโ€™s a little record sign at the top of the screen,โ€ she tells her classmates. โ€œSo the teacherโ€™s recording this, she can watch us and see that weโ€™re not behaving- and the principle. So we should behave.โ€

Thereโ€™s a few seconds of shocked silence after she says this, as the other second graders take in what their classmate had told them. Then they begin to agree with her- but the girl hasnโ€™t finished trying to convince her friends quite yet.

โ€œCos if the principle finds out from the video that youโ€™re being bad right now, then she would be very mad and we could get in big trouble with out parents,โ€ she concludes.

โ€œYeah we would be toast. Toast means weโ€™re in trouble,โ€ one student pipes up.

โ€œMmm I want toastโ€ฆโ€ Another says wistfully. And before they know it, the conversation has turned to toast.

Though technically, weโ€™re not sure that this is classed as misbehaving.

โ€œWhoever said โ€˜weโ€™ll be toast,โ€™ make sure you have toast for breakfast tomorrow.โ€ The mature girl says.
