Most of us don’t pay attention to our pocket change. Most often, it goes directly to our piggy bank or in an unused container, but did you know you can use pennies to create amazing projects?
Shay used pennies for handmade clothing.
The stunning cocktail dress from coins had cross-back straps and fringe designs at the bottom that will make you think it’s a piece that Kim Kardashian would wear.
This talented 22-year-old girl is making a name on social media because of her beautiful works.
For this project, Shay first collected hundreds of pennies from her home. She cleaned and dried them thoroughly and taped them into bundles of five.
Then it was time to drill.
She drilled holes in her penny 5-stacks and prepared them for the next step.
At first, Shay thought it would be an easy project that would last a week. However, when she posted the video, she said it had been more than three weeks, and she was still not done.
Time-consuming? Yes. Worth it? Definitely!
Shay was able to finish the top part of the dress first. Then came the most time-consuming part – the completion of the skirt.
Finally, she was able to put the two together, and she tried the dress on. However, due to the weight, the straps gave in.
She had to repair the dress and use fishing lines to support all the weight.
Then, she added some fringy flair.
The talented young lady was able to complete her project!
“I totally underestimated just how many pennies this skirt would take, and especially how long it would take to chainmail all of the pennies. But it’s finally done!!! And honestly, despite all the work it took, I really do think it was worth it.”

It’s truly a masterpiece.
She modeled the dress and posted the photos on her Instagram account.
According to her, it took her a while to get into the dress because she had to literally “wiggle” so she could wear it.
She also said that aside from its beauty, it would be hard for anyone to wear it.
A person wearing this cocktail dress made from pennies won’t be able to sit down and after a few minutes, you will surely feel the weight of the dress.
In the shade, the coin dress gives off a gradient effect. The coins were also visible and seeing the dress, Shay’s work was impressive.

All in all, LA-based artist Shay Rose completed this incredible cocktail dress from 2,652 coins!
