Music is a universal language that we can all understand and appreciate no matter our differences. Bringing people of all ages and various other differences together as one and reminding us to take moments with the ones we love. Whether it’s gathering your best friends together into a group to go to a festival or a simple night out where an artist is playing we can all appreciate the sound of music.
As COVID-19 has continued to spread across the globe music has been doing its part to try and maintain the balance of sharing the connection with each other through the safety of our own homes. Through multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and TwitchTV various artists are coming together or even separately and doing a live stream to boost our spirits even if just for an hour.
Many artists have come together from the isolation of their own homes and studios to perform for these virtual festivals. More and more online festivals are not only coming together to spread joy but also to raise money to fight coronavirus. A festival called ReConnect held by Beatport raised over $180,000 which was donated to the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and the AFEM COVID-19 Hardship Fund. Beatport’s CEO, Robb McDaniels, made a special comment to all those who tuned in stating,
“We are deeply grateful for all the talented artists and their teams that made the ReConnect event possible, and equally impressed with the dedication and passion shown by the global electronic music community that tuned in for over 34 hours this past weekend to reconnect with their favorite DJs…The generosity of our entire community, including so many great industry partners that donated products to give away, is what resulted in a large donation to two non-profits that can ensure the health and stability of our world and our industry in the months to come.”
Another event that was curated by Lady Gaga for Global Citizen called “One World: Together at Home” raised close to $128 million for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. According to Global Citizen.Org,
“One World: Together At Home raised a total of $127.9 million, providing $55.1 million to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and $72.8 million to local and regional responders.”
On the 27th day of lockdown, a saxophonist in Rome sat down with his daughter and played a rendition of “Imagine” to his neighbors. With his windows open he sets his speakers out on the window sill and with a little help of some percussion on the laptop, Fabio Marziali begins playing his rendition with his daughter’s support.
As he begins she wraps her arms around her father’s neck and begins to dance around with excitement. She dances around some more and eventually goes back to wrapping her arms around her father once more to give him a good hug and show him some support. Fabio continues to play smiling at the simple joy that he has given to his daughter.
If you look closely in the video you can even see some of the neighbors begin to open their windows to hear the magical sound and take a moment to appreciate.
As Fabio finishes the song his daughter rushes over to him with her hands up with excitement as her father leans down to give her a kiss on the head. You can see in the distance his neighbors who opened their windows to hear are smiling as well.
In just a little over a week after Fabio posted this video, Apple featured a snippet of it in their latest campaign titled “Creativity Goes On”, which shows all the little ways people are discovering and sharing their creativity during our time in lockdown. As for Fabio, he is using his gift in music to spread hope and joy to not only his daughter but anyone in range to hear. May we all continue to do that for each other until we can once again be reunited in person.
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
