Sara Carson and her high-flying dog Hero stunned America’s Got Talent judges this week with a beautifully crafted knife fight.
Sara begins her set by walking out with a cheerful dog and something glinting in her right hand. Adorned in fishnets, boots, and a gold skirt, she looks ready for a voyage across the seven seas.
Simon Cowell: “Is that a sword?”
Mel B: It’s a whole theme.
Heidi Klum: She’s a –
Mel B: Pirate.
She brandishes the sword and Hero begins to bark. With the dog seated at the opposite end of the stage, she lifts her weapon into the air. The music kicks off to a thunderous pirate theme and Hero runs after her.
Hero slides between her legs walking backwards, and she takes a swing. The dog leaps into the air and avoids the blade. Simon is clearly impressed with the routine.
Hero runs through Sara’s legs again, cuts back, and jumps onto her back, running over her shoulders.
The dog pokes its face between her legs and trots forward with her. She looks around the stage as if Hero’s disappeared.
Hero pulls away and begins running circles around Sarah with one paw raised into the air the whole time.
She kicks her feet up as the dog weaves between her legs.
Just after this maneuver, Hero jumps up at Sara and grabs the sword, bracing it between the teeth. Hero remains on two feet and dances around the stage.
Sara takes the sword back and grabs the tip with her other hand. She crouches down and Hero leaps through her arms, making it through again and again.
Tyra banks looks at the camera with her nerves firing. Without speaking, she mouths:
“My heart.”
Shortly after, Sara raises her heel and Hero jumps off of it, spinning into the air. Hero runs back at her and leaps off of her hip.
Their performance ends when Hero bites down onto the sword and climbs back onto Sara’s back. Hero sits proud and strong.
Simon and Heidi were instantly impressed, voting yes and hoping to see Sara and Hero in the next round. However, Mel B and Howie Mandel were not so easily convinced.
In an effort to save the epic duo, Simon went on stage to plead their case. After moments of uncertainty and concern, Howie eventually agreed to change his vote, giving the team another chance.
