There are some movies that we never forget. Those movies stay with us forever. The Sandlot is one of those movies.
Released in 1993, the coming-of-age film tells the tales of young baseball players who form a friendship over the game and get into all sorts of summertime hijinks.
The film went on to gross $33 million worldwide and became a cult film. Most of us find ourselves among this cult, quoting the movie’s funniest lines that we remember from our childhood.
That’s why most of us were overjoyed to hear that the film’s stars were reunited for the 25th anniversary of the film’s release to share their favorite Sandlot memories.
All our favorite characters were there like, Smalls, Ham, Yeah-Yeah, Squints, and Repeat.
Since appearing in that film, the film’s cast said that their lives were forever changed.
“It’s been crazy,” said Marty York, who played Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan. “I mean, it definitely gets you in places for free. I can’t walk through a Las Vegas casino without someone yelling ‘Yeah-Yeah!'”
But the cast weren’t the only ones changed by the filmed.
“It made a big impact on a lot of people’s lives,” said Tom Guiry, who played Scotty Smalls.
Apparently, the film has also inspired professional athletes.
According to TODAY, the New York Yankees recreated a scene from the film in 2015 and NBA star Kevin Durant has a photo of Patrick Renna as Hamilton “Ham” Porter as his Twitter profile photo.
“I think it’s awesome,” York said. “It’s a trip.”
This makes sense because the film’s writer and narrator said it was made with a lot of love.
“The film was made with the same amount of love that people have for it, and it was the greatest summer of our lives,” said Evans.
While the movie captured the hearts of an entire generation, the children of the cast seem to be less than impressed.
“I showed (my son) the movie for the first time, and … well, he’s really big on ‘Moana,'” Renna explains.
The same goes for the teenager daughter of Chauncey Leopardi, who played Michael “Squints” Palledorous, who “thinks I’m just kind of a dork.”
The old gang says reuniting felt like they never skipped a beat.
“Seeing these guys, some of ’em I haven’t seen in 25 years, but it is just like we’re back,” Renna said
Their favorite moment from the film… when the treehouse blew up and the scene where Yeah-Yeah comes face to face with the dog.
The gang even shared a game of baseball during their reunion.
