When Robin died, he left behind his three children, Zachary, Zelda, and Cody, who were 31, 25, and 22 at the time of his death. He had two ex-wives and was still with his third wife, Susan Schneider Williams.

In his will, he left his $50 million fortune to his children, which caused a bit of family drama after the fact.

Robin and Susan got married at the luxurious Meadowood Resort in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena, California on Oct. 22, 2011.

The couple lived together at a house in Tiburon, CA, which was valued at more than $7 million after Robin’s 2014 death.

On August 11, 2014, Robin was found hanging in his home in Marin County, California. He was pronounced dead; he was 63. It was later revealed that the comedian and actor had been struggling with depression, anxiety, paranoia, and he’d recently gotten a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

Susan Schneider Williams sat down with Good Morning America a year after his husband’s death and revealed she that Robin Williams was suffering from Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia, which is what she felt caused him to commit suicide.

Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia is a progressive brain disorder in which Lewy bodies (abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein) build up in areas of the brain that regulate behavior, cognition, and movement.

A complex disease, LBD can present with a range of symptoms including problems with thinking, memory, moving, sleep and/or changes in behavior, to name a few of the physical, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms.

In the emotional interview with Amy Robach from Good Morning America, Susan finally opened up about her husband’s death.

Susan breaks down discussing what it was like to watch her “best friend sinking” in the months leading up to his death. She says that the disease was like a chemical warfare on Robin’s brain that led to him disintegrating.

She revealed the last words he spoke to her:

“I was getting in bed and he came in the room a couple of times… and he said, ‘Goodnight, my love.’

“And then, he came back again. He came out with his iPad, and he looked like he had something to do.

“And that was like, ‘I think he’s getting better.’

“And then, he said ‘Goodnight, goodnight.'”
