Birthdays are a special time to celebrate the lives of the people we love. Everyone wants to be with a family member for his or her birthday, even if it is not always possible. One man went way out of his way to be there for his grandfather on his birthday. You’ll never guess how he made this man’s big day special.
Jeffrey Anderson Sr. once served our country as a United States Marine. He is now retired and disabled, but he still looks back fondly on the glory days. For his upcoming birthday, his family wanted to surprise him in some way. His grandson, Christian, knew the perfect way.
Christian Anderson is currently a Marine. His grandfather wasn’t able to see him graduate from basic training. In fact, the two hadn’t seen each other in over two years. When Christian heard that his family was looking for a way to surprise Jeffrey, he wanted to get involved.
Christian decided to surprise his grandfather by showing up in person to his birthday celebration! He put on his full military garb and headed to Jeffrey’s house. When he got there, the entire family was standing outside, waiting for him. Everyone was in on the secret but Jeffrey.
The children cheered as the family circled up on the driveway near the sidewalk. As his grandfather was facing the other way, Christian walked up behind the man. The rest of the family smiled as they waited for the birthday boy to discover his surprise.
“What are you looking at?” Jeffrey wondered aloud as he saw the excitement in his family’s eyes. Slowly, he began to turn around. His face changed from confusion to shock to pure joy as he realized what was happening. Jeffrey was ecstatic to see his grandson after so long!
Christian gave his grandfather a warm embrace. He was so happy to be a part of this man’s birthday celebration.
Jeffery cried tears of joy as he held his grandson close. The magnitude of his emotions could be felt by the whole family. “Happy birthday, dad!” Christian’s mother exclaimed. It was a happy day, indeed.
When people think of birthdays they might imagine cake, ice cream, and presents, but the greatest gift of all is being able to spend time with the people you love. This was one birthday surprise Jeffrey would never forget. Always make it a priority to spend time with the ones you love.
