Peanut wouldn't stop barking and running around the house one day, and her new owners didn't understand why. Luckily, her dad decided to follow her outside.

Dogs are known as ‘man’s best friend,’ but they seem to go above and beyond even that.

We’ve all heard the stories of how our canine friends sense what we cannot.

We’re not talking about anything paranormal, but they’re certainly out of the ordinary.

Dogs can sense seizures, emotional responses, and accidents.

But one doggie “sixth sense” story resulted in a rescue of not one, but two souls.

The story begins with a rescued puppy named Petunia.

When she arrived at the Delta Animal Shelter, she had two broken legs, broken ribs, and a belly full of carpet.

She went through a lot from her previous owner who was convicted eventually of animal abuse.

After she was adopted, her new forever family gave her a new forever name – Peanut.

And while she needed rescue once upon a time, no one knew that she’d be the one who’d do the rescuing.

Her current owners recalled the events that morning. It was 11 AM and Peanut “started going crazy”.

They said she was running up and down the stairs and was making a fuss.

She was barking and yelping until her owners were forced to focus their attention on whatever was distracting Peanut.

Her dad, who was working on some projects in the garage at that time, couldn’t figure out what was bothering their little Peanut.

No one expected the reason behind Peanut’s behavior.

She sensed that something was amiss outside so her parents let her out.

When the door opened, little Peanut barreled out the door in full speed.

Her dad ran after her and soon they found themselves stopping by the edge of a ditch.

At first, he pulled on Peanut’s collar to take him home.

However, his eyes caught what was bothering Peanut from the start.

Down in the ditch, they saw a toddler with no clothes to keep her warm.

She was curled into a ball and was shivering uncontrollably.

They don’t know how long she was down there, but thankfully Peanut sensed her presence.

The man quickly covered the three-year-old with his clothes and rushed her into their house. They called 911 shortly thereafter.

“By the time the ambulance and police arrived, the little girl could only say one thing — ‘doggie,'” the dog owner shared in a Facebook post.

Fortunately, the little girl wasn’t injured and was generally okay.

She was taken to the nearby hospital for tests while the authorities tried to find her parents.

They were eventually located and soon realized how this girl ended up in the ditch.

Apparently, the family was living in unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.

It was only revealed after Peanut rescued the little girl.

After that, her sibling was also taken from the house and was brought under the protection of Child Protective Services.

It now begs the question of what if Peanut didn’t survive her abuse?

What if she was not rescued and rehomed to a loving family?

Thankfully, all of those things were realized and it led to the rescue of not just one, but two kids who needed help.

“Without her, not only would she have been gone from this world, but the life of this little girl might have been taken as well,” Peanut’s owner wrote to Delta Animal Shelter in a letter.

There once was a day that Peanut received the help she needed – so in a way, the four-legged angel was paying it forward.
