Reba McEntire brought the entire Bush family to tears when she performed recently at former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral.

She sang a somber, beautiful version of “The Lord’s Prayer”, and it definitely proved to be a very emotional performance for everyone.

In a touching video of the moment captured by CBS News, son of the deceased, George W. Bush, is seen carefully wiping his eyes with a tissue throughout. Seated next to him was his wife, Laura Bush, who appeared quite moved as well.

They say death defies all boundaries. It doesn’t matter whether you are poor, rich, famous, or a former president, eventually death comes for us all. However, it still never gets any easier.

According to former Secretary of State James Baker, his last words were “I love you, too,” spoken to his son Bush Jr. He passed away 40 minutes later.

“I went to check on him after a run and one of the caregivers said, ‘Mr. President, Secretary Baker’s here,'” Baker told CBS.

“And he looked up at me, opened both eyes looked at me and said, ‘Jim, where are we going?’ And I said, ‘Well, Jefe’ — because that’s what I called him, ‘Jefe,’ which is Spanish for ‘chief’ — I said, ‘Well, Jefe, we’re going to heaven.’

He said, ‘That’s where I want to go.'”

Politics aside, it is clear George Bush Sr was loved by many, and his memory will not soon be forgotten.

One of his many admirers was none other than singer Reba McEntire, who talked of him often. The country superstar and Bush Sr had been friends for many years. On her Instagram, she shared several photos of them together.

In all of the posts, she used the hashtags #greatpresident and #greatfriend.

While McEntire normally sticks to singing country songs, she made an exception for this occasion.

At St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, she sang the melancholic rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer” dressed in a solemn black dress.

Throughout the song, you could tell how deeply affected McEntire was by Bush Sr’s death.

After singing the lines “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,” she paused for a second, looked down, and swallowed hard. However, she somehow managed to maintain composure. She is indeed a very strong and professional woman.

As McEntire finished the performance, the audience began to clap, and the cameras cut to the Bush family who was applauding as well.

McEntire wasn’t the only one to perform that night, however.

The Oak Ridge Boys were also at the funeral. They sang “Amazing Grace”.

“He always taught us to do the right thing, and it is a tremendous honor,” Oak Ridge Boys member Richard Sterban told the Tennessean.

“One final time here on this earth, we’re going to sing it for him and we believe in our hearts we’ll see him again one day and we’ll sing it for him again.”

It certainly was a very moving night.

George Bush Senior was the 41st president of the United States and passed away on November 30, 2018.
