As mothers, we would do anything for our children.
While we do this bountifully, without expecting anything in return, moments of gratitude are always appreciated. And while a simple thank you is enough, some choose to show their appreciation in other ways.
In an effort to show his gratitude towards for his mother, Josh DeShong, a realtor based in Dallas, Texas, wanted to give his mother, Vickie Reynolds, a gift of a lifetime: her dream home.
Now, as a parent, Josh understands and appreciates the sacrifices made by his mother over the years. As a single mother, Vickie faced the challenges of being a sole parent, with Josh admitting he wasn’t the most obedient in his teenage years.
Josh stated, “I got into real estate with the intent to be able to provide for my family, but also be able to give back.”
Josh recalls that Vickie was always there for him, standing by his side when others doubted him. Vickie refused to give up on her son, and when he decided to enter the real estate business, she fully supported him.
As a realtor, Josh was able to find a home that was only 10 minutes away from where him and his 4-year-old daughter, Harper, live. But unfortunately, when he found the home, it was not in the best condition.
Initially, the home was crippled by mold and poor architecture, however Josh had it completely transformed, upgrading the home with granite countertops, newly installed floors, and fresh paint. Over the next few months, Josh made an effort to design the finest home for his mother, investing more money to ensure the improvements were made with quality materials.
Vickie knew Josh was renovating the home, but for what she believed was to put on the market to sell. Throughout the process, Vickie questioned Josh on why he was spending so much money on the renovations. Little did she know, his efforts all went to her.
Josh knew he wanted to do something special for his mother and admits he has been waiting for this moment, stating, “Today, I get to give her back something I’ve been working my entire career to be able to do.”
As Josh brings his mother to the home to take a look at it, she admires the new reovations of the custom built home, stating, “This is probably the best house ever,” prior to learning the beautiful home is hers to keep.
