Vinegar isn’t just used for cooking or adding flavor to dishes. This versatile liquid has many other uses. Bring it to the laundry room, the garden, your garage, and even the beach. You’ll save so much money once you learn of its many uses, especially for cleaning. Read on to learn more.
1. Cleaning dishes and dishwashers
Dish tablets are great but try adding vinegar to the wash cycle. It’s strong enough to remove the grime and grease while also cleaning the dishwasher. Vinegar will remove all of the hard water, lime, and soap scum in your dishes and the machine.
2. Car windows
Normal glass cleaner or acid rain removers don’t always work especially when your car is subjected to the daily grind. Spritz on a good amount of vinegar on the surface, scrub it with a rag, then rinse with water. Vinegars’s acidity helps it cut through the built-up dirt.
3. A brighter smile
Brushing will not always get rid of the stains on your teeth. Dip your toothbrush in white vinegar and brush your teeth with it. Try it once a week and see how it removes plaque and stains from the surface.
4. Get rid of bad odors
Cleaning the house may free surfaces from dirt, but horrid smells are trickier. Add water with vinegar then add a couple of drops of lemon essential oil. Spray around the house with a little extra in smelly spots like the trash can or bathroom. That should get rid of those lingering odors.
5. For mosquito bites
Mosquitoes are super annoying. Waking up with an ugly welt is even more annoying. Scratching only makes it worse. Dab a cotton ball in vinegar and rub it on the area. That should end the itching and disinfect the spot. The smell is a small price to pay.
6. Carpet stains
Make your carpets look new by mixing a quarter cup of baking soda or salt and two tablespoons of vinegar in a bowl or bottle. Cover the stain on the carpet and wait until it completely dries. Vacuum until the stain is gone.
7. Restoring towels
Towels can be refreshed by adding a half cup of vinegar to the washing machine when cleaning your towels. They’ll no longer look rough and flat after months of use. They’ll smell good and feel fluffier!
8. Softer skin on your feet
DIY at home with a little vinegar. Salons do cost money so recreate the foot soak part with a mixture of mouthwash and vinegar. Soak your feet for fifteen minutes or more. Scrub your feet to get rid of dead skin and you’re all set!
9. Rid your pets of fleas
Try using vinegar instead of flea shampoo.Mix water and apple cider vinegar in a 1:1 ratio then spray it on your pet. This works before the actual shampoo since vinegar makes their fur unpleasant for pests. Plus your pet will thank you for it.
10. Cleaning garbage disposals
No one enjoys cleaning garbage disposals but it is a must. But grab an ice tray and make cubes with one part water, one part vinegar, and a lemon wedge. Once they’re frozen, grab a few and leave them in the sink before running the disposal. That should get rid of the smell and whatever is causing it.
11. Make bruises heal faster
Bumps and bruises are inevitable, albeit unsightly, so a little vinegar soaked in a sheet of paper towel can help. Put it on the bruised area as the solution comes with properties that speed up the healing process.
12. Make fruits last longer
Wash newly bought veggies and fruits in vinegar when you get home. Fill the sink with warm water and pour in half a cup of vinegar. Leave the produce submerged for ten minutes before rinsing and storing them in the fridge. Vinegar gets rid of the extra gunk that spoils the food items fast. They should last for another week!
13. Remove stains from clothes
Remove stubborn stains with vinegar by lightly rubbing some on the affected area. you can wash it immediately or let it soak for awhile. There’s no need to throw away stained clothing!

Cut flowers look good inside a house but they do not typically last for long. They will die in a matter of days but vinegar can help extend their life. Just add a teaspoon of sugar and two tablespoons of vinegar to the water. That acts as flower food which lets flowers stay healthier longer.
15. No need for clarifying shampoo
Mix one part apple cider vinegar and two parts water in an old shampoo bottle. Shake well then apply it to your hair evenly. Comb from the roots to the ends and wait for five minutes before washing it out. Do this at least once a week to ensure that your hair is oil-free.
16. Remove scratches from discs
Back in the day, discs were needed for films and music. They did scratch easily which was a problem. But they could be removed with vinegar. If you still have some stored, grab a soft cloth, soak it in white vinegar, and wipe the bottom end of the disc.
17. Kill fruit flies
They are irritating so keep them out of the kitchen with vinegar. Pour apple cider vinegar into a small jar of sauce then add few drops of dish soap. Leave it in the area with the most fruit flies. The smell attracts them which means they’ll drown in the mixture.
18. Get rid of mildew smell in clothes
It’s a common mistake to dump clothes in the washer and leave them.Then a weird smell develops. Vinegar helps get rid of bad smells. If clothes smell like mildew, rewash the load with a half-cup of white vinegar and several drops of essential oil.
19. Killing weeds
Chemical weed killers can damage your plants and even poison pets and family. Vinegar with high acidity in a spray bottle helps get rid of weeds. Or try combining a gallon of white vinegar, a tablespoon of dish soap, and a cup of salt for even better results.
20. Buffing out wooden furniture
Wooden furniture does scratch or fade over time so keep them in good condition with vinegar. Mix iodine and apple cider vinegar in a bottle or bowl then spread on top of the scratches. Buff them out to bring out that smooth finish. Use more iodine for darker wood.
21. For painful sunburns
Sunburn can be treated with a bottle of vinegar. Chill an entire bottle of distilled apple cider vinegar in the fridge. Pour on a soft piece of cloth then pat the burned spots. That helps minimize itching and peeling. The reddish color won’t go away but there is a lot of relief.
22. Smoothing out wrinkles on clothes
Ironing fresh clothes isn’t much fun so thank goodness vinegar works as a wrinkle remover. Add a tablespoon of vinegar with two cups of water and a teaspoon of hair conditioner in a spray bottle. Mist your clothes after they come out of your dryer. The mixture relaxes the fibers of your clothes while smoothening out wrinkles.
23. Makes windshield wipers less streaky
Windshield wipers can be more effective with vinegar. Old wipers just smear the water and dirt on the windshield so soak a rag in distilled white vinegar and clean the rubber with it. The vinegar will rid the blades of all the grime.
24. For sore throats
Drinking vinegar isn’t pleasant but if you are suffering from a sore throat, this may be your best friend. Add a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a cup of hot water and drink all of it. A little honey can improve the taste. You’ll feel better.
25. Getting dust out of your computer
Dusty computers are annoying. Mix water and white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio. Use a soft cloth and soak it in the mixture before squeezing out the cloth. Wipe it over the computer gently. The vinegar will clear out the dust. Clean difficult spots around the keyboard keys with a cotton swab for good measure. Of course make sure the computer is shut off before cleaning.
26. Remove water rings from furniture
Coasters are useful but not everyone remembers to use those. You can remove stubborn marks with equal parts of olive oil and vinegar. Por mixture on a soft cloth and rub the stain, moving with the grain of the wood. Wipe the surface with a clean cloth and your done.
27. Peeling off bumper stickers
Stickers can be cute but not everyone likes them. If you plan on selling, you’ll want to remove those stickers. Grab a bottle of undiluted distilled vinegar and pour some on the sides and top of the sticker. Wait ten to fifteen minutes then slowly scrape it all off.
28. Dusting spray
Vinegar can repel dust. Just mix a cup of water, a quarter cup of vinegar, two teaspoons of olive oil, and a couple of drops of lemon essential oil. The mixture will cut through the grease and grime on surfaces while adding a shiny protective layer on top. Really cheap to make too!
29. General cleaning spray
Unlike cleaning chemicals that could pose hazards to one’s health, vinegar is a great alternative for cleaning purposes. Add one part water and one part white vinegar to an empty spray bottle for this. You can also add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil to the mixture if you want it to make your home smell nice. This is how you make a spray that is ideal for cleaning just about anything!
30. For the toilet tank
Vinegar added in the toilet tank helps keep it clean and efficient. The liquid clears out mineral deposits and won’t damage anything. It’s cheap and easy to do, plus it keeps the toilet functioning properly.

31. Unclogging sinks
A bottle of vinegar will work as well as a dedicated chemical cleaner. Boil water first then pour it down the train. Throw in a cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar then cover the sink with a drain plug. Leave it for five to ten minutes. The ingredients will react and cause a bubbling effect that clears out the pipes.
32. Clean out the microwave
The microwave is a must have but it does become annoying to clean. Pour distilled white vinegar and an equal amount of water in a bowl then warm it up inside the microwave for two to three minutes. Dip a cloth in the mixture and wipe the insides. The steam loosens the grime which allows you to wipe off the residue.
33. Cleaning burnt pans
This will work even with a scorched bottom. Add a cup of vinegar and a cup of water in the pan and bring it to a boil. When it starts bubbling, remove from the heat then add two tablespoons of baking soda. Let it sit for a few minutes before draining the liquid. Clean the pan using a scouring pad. It works!
34. Cleaning tiles
Tiles can be full of grime and stains. Mix half a cup of vinegar and a gallon of warm water then wipe the tiles down to get rid of loose dirt. Once that’s done, wipe over the tiles or mop them up with the same mixture. The stains and grime will lift to reveal clean and sparkling tiles.
35. Removing ballpen marks
Use a cloth or a sponge to dab on the marks left by the “artist”. You’ll need strong vinegar for this but it does work. Especially useful when there are kids around.
