Every once in a while, you come across a special sort of fan at a sports event, and that is certainly the case for the 85-year-old Betty True, a passionate fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. When the video board in the Dodger Stadium during a game focused on her, she absolutely went wild with some incredible dance moves and even briefly flashed her T-shirt. Now, this funky grandma is making national headlines.
When Betty, now known as “Rally Granny” noticed the deafening cheers and applause of the crowd, she just kept on going on going with increasingly wild dance moves.
The real shocking moment was yet to come, however, as she very briefly decided to lift up her blue shirt for a quick flash of her white bra. The crazy moment occurred during the July 8 game when the Dodgers competed against the City Royals from Kansas.
Some footage of Rally Granny’s dance moves made its way online, and the video almost immediately went viral and truly proves that anything can happen in a sports stadium.
“I tell everybody that I supplement my Social Security with pole dancing,” Betty said to the Los Angeles Times.
“At first when I saw I myself on the big screen, I was waving my arms and I thought, oh no, that’s going to show my underarm dangle,” Betty mentions. “So then I went into my cruising moves, and they kept the cameras on me, and I thought, well, they’re asking for it now.”
The quick flash shocked the entire stadium for a second, but that shock quickly turned into incredible cheers from a crowd that was a little over 45,000 people strong.
During and after the game, Betty was treated like a true star with plenty of people approaching her to take selfies.
Betty has been a Dodgers fan her entire life, and she often spent time supporting the Dodgers together with her husband Mark. Sadly, Betty’s husband passed away seven years ago due to lung cancer, but Betty decided that she would honor her husband by continuing to do all the fun things the two did together in his memory. Mark didn’t want Betty to stop partying.
“He was a party boy, he encouraged me to party, we just had a ball, an absolute ball, I miss him so much,” she said. “I’m just trying to live up to our reputation.”
Lon Rosen, chief marketing officer for the LA Dodgers, is happy to hear about all the attention Betty has been given nationwide.
“We’re glad people reacted to her positively,” he said. “We enjoyed having her and her spirit in the stadium, and we’re certainly going to stay in touch with her.”
As for Betty, she certainly didn’t expect to go viral on the internet, but she will most definitely continue to be a funky grandma.
“This is so much fun, I’m just getting such a kick out of making people laugh, making them happy,” she concludes. “I’m carrying on.”
