Music plays a crucial role in helping us connect to one another. Some songs capture human emotions so perfectly, the song is all that is needed to convey a powerful message. One organization included a song such as this in its heartwarming cause, and the affect was amazing.

“Angels Among Us” was originally written by Alabama and released as a country Christmas single. The song reaches out to comfort those in need of help, reminding them, “Oh, I believe there are angels among us, sent down to us from somewhere up above.”

This incredible song was adapted for a noble cause, one that sparked the collaboration between Radio Disney and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The two worked together to re-record the song, this time featuring an abundance of popular country artists such as Carly Pearce, Hunter Hayes, Brennley Brown, CB30, Jillian Jacqueline, Lucy Hale, RaeLynn, Sara Evans, Scotty McCreery, Tegan Marie, and Temecula Road.

The new version was played on Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country. It reached out to music listeners in an attempt to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer. Thanks to the popularity of this hit single, Disney was able to donate $25,000 to St. Jude.

St. Jude Hospital is dedicated to defeating childhood cancer once and for all. According to their website, “Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.” They continue to explain that “because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, [the organization] has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation.”

St. Jude Hospital even made some young patients’ day by bringing them on a field trip to the Radio Disney studio. The children played with the sound equipment, listened to music through headphones, and spent the day watching the artists record. As Kristin Danley puts it, “The smiles that spread across their faces for being a part of this beautiful musical event is simply heartening.”

Thanks to the talent of these wonderful country music stars, Radio Disney and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital were able to make a leap forward in their fight against childhood cancer. We are one step closer to a future where no child will have to battle this terrible disease.
