Putri Ariani is a gifted teenage singer from Indonesia who just about impressed everyone on America’s Got Talent.
The 17-year-old is blind but that doesn’t stop her from chasing her dreams.
“My biggest challenge is people look at me just as a blind person, not as a musician.
But when I’m singing, I feel like, um, a superstar.” she said.
Her first trip to America, she soon shares with judge Sofia Vergara and the rest what the dream is.
Her first trip to America. “My dream is to become the biggest diva in the world, like Whitney Houston, and win a Grammy Award,” she told the audience.
“I hope I can win America’s Got Talent so I can reach my dream.”
Putri is a native of Riau province.
She was born prematurely in December 2005 due to complications her mother experienced. Putri was diagnosed blind just three months later.
But this Indonesian talent refuses to be constrained by her disability.
Putri sat down and played the piano for her captivating performance, her parents watching with Terry Crews backstage.
She melted hearts with an original ballad called “Loneliness”, balancing it out with perfect-pop tones, vocal maturity and unreal control.
The crowd cheered and roared to its feet, and as Putri finished her ballad, Simon Cowell got up from his chair and headed for the stage, introducing himself to Putri.
Her father soon joined in to chat with Simon.
At the esteemed judge’s request, “because he enjoyed Putri’s voice so much,” she performed a second song, “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.”
Sofia was confused but soon it all became clear.
The Indonesian sensation dedicated the Elton John and Bernie Taupin classic to Cowell.
And what a rendition of the classic that Simon requested for that even the audience was enthralled.
As soon as Putri finished, and on a high note at that, the audience rose to their feet in cheers.
“My God.” remarked Simon.
Putri is just too good to be true.
Superstar!
“We are all mesmerized by you, your voice. You’re an angel,” says Sofia Vergara.
“A lot of people don’t believe in angels and I think one just landed on our stage. You are a superstar,” added Howie Mandel.
“You sounded so beautiful tonight,” remarked Heidi Klum.
“You’re 17. You write songs. You’ve got an amazing distinctive voice. And I mean really, really good. You have kind of a glow about you,” Simon continued.
Putri then says that she dreams of going to Juilliard in New York, one of the world’s most prestigious performing arts schools.
With that, Simon hits his Golden Buzzer, sending Putri straight to the live shows.
“She’s brilliant,” he said.
“You are, I think, one of the best singers we’ve ever had on our show,” Simon told Putri in her ear when he went back on the stage to congratulate her.
That glow looks so much better with gold, don’t you think?
