Public performances are usually guaranteed to attract a crowd. Could be dancers, a parade, singers, or just some random person with a musical instrument. It is a welcome distraction from the errands and plans anyone out is doing.
This man named Henri Herbert was out and about at a shopping mall and just so happened upon a public piano. Wanting to scratch the itch, he sits down to play. Well to be honest this was planned as part of a documentary called “Street Pianos – Instruments of Change” that’s directed by Maureen Ni Fann.
The secret is out. This man is a pro. That piano has never been played that way before. Henri’s fingers are setting fire to it making it sing as if it were a living, breathing thing. He is playing “Getting on down” from his album “Boogie Woogie Piano”.
It is a ridiculously fast-paced jam as evidenced by his finger speed it’s a wonder that piano is still holding up.
People are accustomed to random music playing in a mall or any public place to the point that they just walk by and get along with their day.
Now they must have thought this was a hoax first, or there was a hidden speaker beneath the piano and this man was just pretending to play.
Well step up and come closer, ladies and gentlemen. They see now that Herbert really is playing. And now a crowd is gathering stunned and astonished at the talent on public display. Phones out, you don’t want to miss this!
The crowd erupts into applause with amazed and bewildered looks on their faces when Herbert finishes. Told ya so!
Well, Henri Herbert is actually French. He was born in France but raised in the UK, and at an early age has shown his keen interest in music, and most especially the piano. In 2011, Monsieur Herbert joined Jim Jones Revenue as they toured the world up until 2014 when they disbanded. This was when he decided to go solo.
Now what gets people from every corner of the world to gather and communicate? Music!
The Street Piano Movement was meant to encourage people to communicate without words.
This idea gave birth to a documentary filming piano players as they went along and that there is no specific age group, no denomination, and no particular social class exempted from being attracted to street piano playing.
The daily hustle and bustle, the fast-paced lifestyles have taken control which have, in a way, reduced the personal interactions and communication between people.
Over 38.7 million views and 686k likes are all Henri Herbert’s. You will never see nor hear a piano played like this. Henri is a god on that piano and we wouldn’t be surprised if the piano had to go out for a cigarette break with a beer after this lightning paced jam. It is sensational to watch.
This really is “Supercharged Boogie” as stated on his Facebook bio. Crazy. You might be lucky enough to catch Henri and if you do, make sure you have a fully charged battery. It’s not something you will see everyday.
