Pep rallies are the highlight of the year for many high school students. The cheers and energy of the crowd combined with the swelling pride staff and students feel for their school makes for an event like no other.
But Cardinal Gibbons High School had a pep rally to top all other pep rallies all thanks to the unexpected appearance of one surprisingly talented priest.
It was a pep rally like any other.
The show started with a row of cheerleaders and performers dressed in red and another in black. They performed the expected synchronized dance steps you’d expect, with lots of bounce and pep to their steps.
The crowd was invested as one might expect, but there wasn’t a huge pop-off. The crowd was just not going wild, even as the cheerleaders flipped and cartwheeled across the gym floor, showing incredible dexterity and agility.
Things were about to get cranked up.
But then the familiar opening to “The Empire Theme” from Star Wars played. Everyone in the crowd was hushed knowing that something big was going to happen.
That’s when a priest confidently strides towards the cheerleaders from off-stage. Just check out his commanding presence as he walks across the gym.
The priest takes the lead and then…
Once the priest takes his place at the head of the cheer team. He raises up his arms as if calling for silence.
But then he hops around and goes completely wild. With strong dance steps, wild sharp gestures with his arms and elbows. This is a man of the Lord with a mission.
The best part is how the crowd goes wild, especially as he bops and twists and leads the dance team towards a breathtaking finale. Then, just as it looks like things can’t get better, he throws an arm up in the sky as the song fades away.
The crowd can’t handle this cool moment and everyone cheers and applauds. You can just imagine everyone considering this priest the coolest adult at the pep rally and with good reason.
You don’t need a dancing priest at your pep rally…
You might stop and think that you need a dancing priest at your next pep rally. But that is as far from the truth as it could be. There are plenty of easy and affordable ways to make things more exciting for teens.
If you’re in charge of your school’s pep rally or want to offer suggestions to someone who is, then these suggestions from SignupGenius may help.
- Kick it off with a Sports Style entrance in classrooms or the auditorium
- Get a spirited staff member with a great voice to be a DJ for morning announcements
- Organize a student-run T-shirt design contest and let students place orders for their favorites
- Organize Raffles for cool prizes, like game or show tickets or department store gift cards
