A marriage proposal is a big deal.

Itโ€™s something that most people only experience once or twice in their life.

And when a little girl received her very first marriage proposal while she was still in preschool, she wasnโ€™t too happy about it.

Kynlee McFetridge was approached by one of her fellow preschool classmates while at school one day.

But what this classmate did surprised her, and frankly, made her a little angry.

The little boy asked her if she would marry him.

Now, this may sound like a flattering experience for some people, but Kynlee wasnโ€™t having it.

So what did she do?

Well, she put him in a headlock, thatโ€™s what she did.

When her mom asked her why she did this, her response was โ€œKids donโ€™t get married so thatโ€™s why I put a headlock down on him. And thatโ€™s why I took him down.โ€

Although Kynlee may have gone a little overboard, sheโ€™s not wrong about the fact that kids donโ€™t get married.

You may be wondering where Kynlee even learned how to put someone into a headlock.

Well, it all started when she was just 5 months old.

Kynlee was born with a heart defect that required her to get heart surgery.

When she recovered, her dad started to wrestle with her in order to help her gain strength and coordination.

Her dad was quoted as saying, โ€œItโ€™s not like I taught her [a headlock]. I was just trying to get her stronger and coordinated and I guess she figured out what I was doing and I didnโ€™t really realize she learned it.โ€

But Kynlee did learn how to use a headlock and she decided that turning down a child-marriage proposal was a good time to use it.

Luckily, her parents were sure to teach Kynlee that headlocks arenโ€™t a good way to solve her problems and she seems to understand that now.

Although her headlock was used at the wrong time, itโ€™s a good thing that she knows how to defend herself.

You can never start learning self-defense at too young of an age and Kynlee surely has a head start on many people.

According to World of Self-Defense, โ€œConsidering the alarming rate and increase in child trafficking globally, our kids should have the option of being prepared for a worst-case scenario, itโ€™s our duty as parents to teach them some plan of action, whether it be self-defense or just outsmarting an attacker whenever they notice something out of the ordinary.โ€

So the ideal situation for little Kynlee is that she continues to wrestle with her father and learn more self-defense moves, but know when and where it is appropriate to use them.

I can only imagine how many things you worry about as a parent.

Iโ€™m still a long way off from becoming a dad (hopefully), but I have a few friends and a sister who have kids and Iโ€™ve heard them share their worries about keeping their kids safe.

As Kynleeโ€™s dad, I think that I would be very proud of her for using her self-defense moves.

But the next thing Iโ€™d teach her is who to use them onโ€“and that probably wouldnโ€™t include young classmate suitors.
