He promised to marry her in preschool and 20 years later, he lived up to his words
Matt first told Laura he was going to marry her when they were in preschool. Well, Matt kept his word.

Preschool “romances” are usually short-lived. But not for Matt and Laura.

We’ve all heard of high school sweethearts, but what about preschool sweethearts?

This is a love story for the ages, up there with the likes of The Notebook and Titanic.

Sure, it doesn’t feature Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Ryan Gosling, nor Rachel McAdams. This love story doesn’t have actors – it’s about real people.

Meet Laura Scheel and Matt Grodsky.

In preschool, Matt remembers the exact day he declared his love for Laura, promising to marry her one day.

“One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my pre-school class, declaring that I would marry her someday.”

Cute preschool promises aren’t usually kept, but Matt’s a man of his word.

Back in the day, Matt and Laura used to do everything together.

But relationships can be messy, especially in preschool…

Like tons of good love stories, these protagonists ended up drifting apart after their initial romance, too young to understand what they have.

With that said, they looked absolutely adorable together as toddlers.

The years went by, one by one. They continued to grow apart until one fateful day in high school, reconnecting through a mutual friend.

And the rest is history.

Here they are, years later. Nothing’s really changed… except that they’re adults now, obviously.

The couple started dating within two weeks after reconnecting, despite going to different schools.

They even maintained a long-distance relationship through college.

Then, Matt eventually came through with his preschool promise. In 2015, he summoned the courage to finally ask the girl of his dreams (and reality) to marry him.

Matt proposed at their old preschool.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Although it took a while, in a way, Matt’s known what he’s wanted since preschool. Most people aren’t as sure-minded.

This is legitimately one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever seen.

You love to see it.

These days, they’re all smiles.

Their romance was even featured on HuffPost!

Matt’s quite the romantic, even as a child he was conjuring ways to charm Laura.

“I remember trying to impress her during a Cinco De Mayo celebration at the preschool where we were trying to break open a piñata. Fortunately, I was the kid who managed to do it and I assume it got her attention.”

I’m sure it did!

Matt’s efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed.

Sometimes, real life is a fairy tale.

Their story goes much like the closing lines of Bilbo Baggins’s There and Back Again – “and they lived happily ever after.”

So what do you think of Matt and Laura’s incredible journey? I’m not sure a better romance could be written!

“Laura and I met in preschool. One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my pre-school class, declaring that I would marry her someday. As kids, Laura taught me how to ride the swings, draw rolling hills, and the ‘right way’ to properly eat string cheese. We have fond memories of playing hide-and-go-seek, chasing after each other on the playground, and mischievously staying up during nap time. I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day. Eventually, we lost touch upon entering our Elementary School days and for the next seven years, our family’s annual Christmas cards was the only way we ever saw each other’s faces. It wasn’t until High School that we reconnected by happenstance through a mutual friend. Within two weeks, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend. We continued to date through out all of High School, even though we went to different schools. We even stuck together long-distance while attending colleges in different states. We remained a resilient couple until May 23rd, 2015 when I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge and make Laura my wife. I proposed to her at the place it all began… our preschool classroom.”
