The parents were bracing themselves for the worst.

We can only imagine the amount of stress new parents go through to raise their kids. And that stress probably increases fourfold when their baby is born with complications.

Four months before Christmas, a new father posted a call for prayers on Facebook after the premature birth of his twin sons. Just days before Christmas, his prayers were finally answered.

Born Weighing Just a Pound

Expecting parents, Adam Mills and Jade Calvin, knew something was wrong when Jade had to be airlifted to another hospital when she prematurely went into labor in August.

Things took a turn for the worse when her labor extended over the course of days instead of hours.

“I was expecting the worst. I was in labor for a few days which made a big difference to the babies’ chances of survival. I was told that if it had been a couple of days before it could have been a miscarriage.”

– Jade in an interview with The Mail

Finally, their twin boys were delivered, but arriving way earlier than their expected due date, the babies were severely premature (four months early to be exact) and weighed only just a pound each.

Feeling the gravity of the situation, new dad Adam recounted the arduous labor of his wife and asked for prayers for his sons Isaac and Cain with a series of Facebook posts in which he gave the news of the birth of his twin sons while also asking for prayers:

“So at 16.39 and 16.47 Cain and Isaac Mills were brought into the world in an emergency birth 16 weeks premature. In the early stages both babies are stable but are in ICU and this is a very critical age for any baby to be born let alone for twins. But please if you have a little faith, put your hands together and say a little prayer for Cain and Isaac pulling through.”

The Perfect Christmas Gift

But despite the slim chances of their survival, the twins were able to pull through and have even been discharged from the ICU to celebrate their first Christmas at home with their parents.

It has been a dream for them. One of the only things the parents had wished for was to be able to bring home their twin miracles in time to celebrate the holiday at home as a family.

The parents were also thankful to the Preston’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Furness General Hospital for taking care of both Jade and the twins.

A Bumpy Ride to Stable Health

Of course, for the premature twins, their journey to survival hasn’t always been easy. There have been times when it didn’t look good for the premature babies.

In fact, the twins spent the first two months of their lives in an incubator to support their breathing.

After six weeks, their health was beginning to look up and their father Adam was happy to share that first bit of good news. He told the world that Cain was off his ventilator and that Isaac, while still dealing with a few health issues, was also looking like he would eventually be free from needing the machine.

In the end, everything they went through was indeed worth it for the perfect Christmas miracle.
