Some reunions are just absolutely heartwarming, emotional and truly incredible. Kirk Kellerhals recently reunited with his biological mother after a long period of 48 years thanks to an online DNA database.

When Kirk was born, his mother had to give him away and wasn’t allowed to keep him because it was frowned upon in the family – but their family bond was too strong and the two finally found each other again.

Kirk’s birth mother Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett from Vietnam became pregnant with him in the midst of the Vietnam War. The father was an American soldier, but was relocated to another military base in the country and had no knowledge of the pregnancy. Thuy-Nga eventually lost touch with him.

Unfortunately, the woman wasn’t allowed to keep her baby after birth. Her father took the little baby away just after he was born because he was afraid the baby would bring shame to the family.

“When you have kid half-American, half-Vietnamese, people look down on you, especially your family,” Thuy-Nga said. “He just took it right after I had him.”

Luckily, she never lost hope and kept on praying to find her son back, one day. That day had finally come after a long time of searching.

Thuy-Nga enlisted the help of Family Tree DNA, an online database in order to track heritage and ‘match’ with a potential family member.

She had already been a member of the site for two years, and when Kirk himself decided to join as well, the two finally got in touch with each other.

Kirk was always interested in knowing more about his birth family and had tried to find more information via conventional methods, but wasn’t too keen on doing an internet search. Luckily, his wife made him change his mind and one email changed his life forever.

“I got the email from Family Tree DNA that the results were back and they had a match,” he said.

“It said parent-child match. I just kind of shook my head and said that’s a mistake. That’s impossible.”

Thuy-Nga calls it a gift from God, and their emotional reunion was captured on tape by CBN News.

“I knew that God would answer if I just keep faith and keep believing. God sent my son to me.”

“I remember in the Bible it said knock and it shall be opened, ask and you shall receive. I wouldn’t let go,” she said.

When Thuy-Nga met Kirk at his home and met him in the driveway, the two understandably became very emotional and burst into tears. A beautiful, heartfelt moment.

“Thank you God for bringing my son to me,” Thuy-Nga said while giving her son a big hug.

“Thank you for finding me,” Kirk emotionally said.

What an incredible reunion!
