A Chance Meeting
A special visit was given to a 9-year boy named Jalen Manns who was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumor. In Warner Robins, Georgia, several officers from the Warner Robins Police Department visited Jalen before he was taken to the hospital for his procedure. In the midst of the transporting Jalen, one officer along with his trusty dog companion decided to participate in an inspiring moment of prayer. That moment was luckily caught on tape and has since been made viral.
The officer commenced his prayer. “Lord heavenly father, we just come to you now, Lord God, asking for your words of encouragement and strength today,” said the emotional officer. He had placed one hand on Jalen’s shoulder and one hand on his K9 to muster all the support he could.
Interestingly enough, it seems Jalen has a very strong affinity towards German shepherds since he keeps a stuffed collection of the dog breed. Jalen’s mom, Hannah Manns, calls them his guard dogs. Most of the collection was gifted and donated by people who were able to view Jalen’s story on social media. Jalen’s mom also started a GoFundMe page to assist with raising money for the surgical procedure and was able to reach almost half of the $8000 goal.
“Jalen Has Really Bad Anxiety”
According to Jalen’s mom, the tumor has caused terrible psychological and sensory issues with Jalen over time. Anxiousness has been a lingering issue as his mom has stated that “Jalen has really bad anxiety,”. After making the post visible through Facebook, the Warner Robins Police Department was able to see it and immediately spoke with Manns in order to schedule a visit for Jalen.
About five or six officers arrived early in the morning as they showed up to Jalen’s home promptly before he was taken to the hospital. The officers were polite and cordial and even shook Jalen’s hands as well as gave him presents.
Afterward, the officers offered Jalen to step outside and present him to all their dogs. They took turns knowing that Jalen had a deep admiration for German shepherds. After Jalen became acquainted with each K-9, the police officers helped transport the boy over Navicent Health in Macon in order to undergo his procedure.
Due to his anxiety, Jalen began fretting once he realized the officers had to leave for their line of work. His mom noticed he was starting to heavily worry, thus she reassured him that they were just going to “protect our city and our homes and where we live.”
The Officers Promise To Come Back
Jalen’s mom was incredibly delighted that the officers were wanting to follow up with Jalen after his surgery. The men in blue definitely gave Jalen a sense of security and tranquillity he may have been needing going into his procedure. If everything goes as planned, the officers promised to reenact the entire event once Jalen has recovered.
The prayer before the surgery is what truly left Jalen’s mom speechless. It reinvigorated her belief that Jalen would come out of this unscathed. His surgery is slated to last anywhere between six to eight hours and he will be going directly to the pediatric intensive care unit right after.
This supportive gesture has truly made a difference for this brave young boy. We will hold him in our best wishes to recover from this swiftly.
Update: After months of recovery, Jalen’s brain tumor has been removed and he is cancer-free! His GoFundMe has been deactivated as a result.
