The Northern California fires that devastated the state earlier last month was catastrophic for those residing in the area, but one man was determined to keep hope alive by doing his job.

A postal service worker was captured via a drone that cinematographer Douglas Thron was flying through a devastated neighborhood, and what he saw inspired him and those that once had homes in the city of Santa Rosa, where this was filmed.

Surprisingly, the man, who was later found to be named Trevor Smith, explained to Inside Edition that he had decided to go along his regular route, knowing that the fires had greatly affected some of the homeowners he visits every day. He found outgoing mail in a standing mailbox two days in a row, which prompted him to continue going on his regular route. It’s also further been noted that he had received requests from the Senior Mobile Park that he continues to drop off mail even after the evacuation.

The sense of normalcy these little acts can bring help highlight that in some of our toughest most strangest parts of life, seeing something that feels routine and average can help bring those in pain some peace.

He’s being touted as the most dedicated mail carrier on the planet, and we can definitely see why! Smith’s dedication to his community is truly amazing, and while we don’t expect every person to be this dedicated to their career, it’s a heartwarming moment for those that depended on him for a connection to their friends and loved ones during these difficult times. While there is still a long road for citizens of Northern California that were affected by the fires, we’re hoping that little moments like these continue to help them get back to a sense of normalcy in their everyday lives.
