Iraq veteran William Jazwinski was driving home one morning when he noticed police lights behind him. After the officer told him why he was pulled over, both of them end up hugging and in tears.

As William was going about his business on a normal day, he was pulled over by a police officer. Confused as to why he was being pulled over, he asked the cop for an explanation. The police officer’s reason was simple: he just wanted to thank William for his service. He must have noticed the military bumper sticker on the back of his truck.

The police officer proceeded to ask William where he had served; William had spent fifteen months in Iraq. It turns out; this hit very close to home for this officer.

After finding out that William had served in Iraq, the cop opened up and revealed that his son had also fought in Iraq. However, he never made it home.

That statement hit William hard because he, himself, just finished going through a program to help him deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. An all too common affliction that so many of our soldiers return home to bear; it’s absolutely devastating.

After exposing such a vulnerable side of him, the cop noticed a folded American flag on William’s dashboard. It was an exact copy of the one he had received after being notified of his son’s death. It was at this moment that the police officer decided to ask William for an odd request. He asked William for a hug.

“You remind me of my son. I pulled you over. I thought you were him. I still don’t believe it most days he’s gone,” the officer said.

Of course, without any hesitation whatsoever, William got out of his truck to give the kind officer a hug. At that moment they became instantly connected and bonded. Both of them couldn’t help but cry and sob uncontrollably. William says they hugged and cried together for about a minute or two before saying their goodbyes.

William took to Facebook to share the emotional moment he had with the wonderful police officer. He also ends his post with gratitude and love, saying:

“To all the family and friends of soldiers, fighting or done fighting, God bless you. Your peace and your hearts. Its so hard without them, i know. This road is a tremendous one. Love to all.”
