Usually, the police showing up is a sign that a party is over.

But that definitely wasn’t the case for this 4th of July block party!

In Asheville, North Carolina, one neighborhood was celebrating July 4th with a community block party that had everything, including food, drinks, and an awesome homemade Slip ‘N Slide!

Unfortunately, one person in the neighborhood was not enjoying the summer festivities.

So, they did what any party pooper would do: they filed a noise complaint and claimed that the children’s Slip ‘N Slide was blocking traffic.

Senior officer Carrie Lee and officer Joe Jones arrived at the scene to investigate the complaint. In a video posted to Twitter, Officer Carrie describes the situation, saying:

“We looked at [the Slip ‘N Slide] and determined it wasn’t really an issue. So, the first thing I said, I said, ‘I’m not here to come break up your fun.”

Instead of shutting the block party down, the officers did what any rational people would do in these circumstances: they hopped on the Slip ‘N Slide too!

Trying it out was Officer Carrie’s idea. Resident Katlen Joyce Smith tells ABC News:

“When the female officer asked for a garbage bag, we almost didn’t believe it. But she took off her radio and went for it!”

Carrie can be seen making her way down the slide in the following video uploaded to Facebook by Katlen.

Officer Joe was reluctant to give the Slip ‘N Slide a go, but when one of the neighborhood kids approached him with a giant raft, he knew he couldn’t let them down.

Public information officer Christina Hallingse tells ABC News, “[Officer Joe] thought he was going to get away with it because he couldn’t fit in a trash bag but then a little boy ran and got a a big raft.”

Katlen tells ABC News that, after taking their turns on the Slip ‘N Slide, “[The officers] told us to have a great day, posed for some pictures and thanked us for the fun!”

Since attending the neighborhood block party, Officer Carrie and Officer Joe have become viral sensations. They can be seen discussing the events in this interview with Morning Dose TV:

People around the world seem to be enamored with jolly officers Carrie and Joe.

Now, if only more police officers would take their fun-loving lead!
