Tommi Jones Kelley works as a Deputy at the Harris County Constable Precinct in Texas and recently had an interaction with a young teenager that she will remember forever.
Tommi Jones was in her police vehicle and needed to pump some gas. While preparing to fill up her car, Mckinley Zoellner suddenly approached her.
She never met the young teenager before, and he simply asked her if it was okay to stand right behind her.
The police officer was a bit skeptical at first, but she was absolutely shocked by his response when she asked him why.
“Ok, so EARLY this morning I was pumping gas in my patrol car (reason I look like a Hot Mess!)…& add it was pouring rain…
When this teenager I’ve never met before is standing right behind me & says, ‘ma’am, do u mind if I stand here behind you while u get ur gas?” Tommi Jones posted on her Facebook page.
My initial response was ‘and why?’…His reply, ‘to make sure You stay safe!’ Finished pumping my gas & he was still standing there, in the rain.”
Mickinley wanted to return the favor to our brave men and women in blue by providing Tommi Jones with some backup in the middle of the night and in the pouring rain.
When the police officer was finished pumping gas, the young teen went his own way and got into a car. Tommi Jones followed him to thank him for his kind gesture and met the young man’s mother, praising his actions.
“He then just walked off & started to get into the passenger side of a car & I asked the driver she was his mom & indeed she was. I told her she has an amazing son & she said he wanted to make sure no one hurt me,” she posted.
“Yes, I’m the one with the gun on my hip while he stood there empty handed, but he for sure had my ‘6’ while my back was turned. With all the terror going on nationwide, this reassured me there are still some pretty awesome individuals out there!”
Tommi Jones Kelley’s post quickly went viral and received the attention of national news outlets.
“I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story. To the parents of this young man, Thank you for raising an amazing young man. To the young man, Thank you for being AWESOME. I hope this story sets an example for our youth. I fully support law enforcement, as two of my nephews are police officers. May God bless you ALL and keep you safe,” one person wrote as a comment.
