Deputy Frazier from Long Beach, Mississippi, noticed a car with the driver seemingly passed out in the front seat and decided to pull over. When he got closer to the man, two other men distracted the deputy as the driver ambushed him from behind.

The police officer was then dragged into the woods and the three criminals intended to severely hurt and likely even kill the man. He heard that they would “slit his throat”, but in the struggle, Deputy Frazier managed to grab his keychain and unlock the compartment of the K9 unit in his patrol car.

“They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods,” Chief Deputy Don Bass said.

Immediately, the deputy’s trusty dog Lucas ran over to help his owner in need.

The dog furiously attacked at least one of the criminals. The three attackers ran away terrified and even though they weren’t apprehended, Lucas managed to save the life of his human partner.

“We don’t know how many he got; we just know he had blood all over him,” Sheriff Ricky Adam said.

Chief Deputy Don Bass later declared in a statement that the three men had the intention to kill Deputy Frazier and dump his body. He also calls the encounter with Lucas a “very near miss”, the dog came to his aid just in time.

Unfortunately, the canine did suffer some injuries because of the attack. He had a torn ligament and missed a couple of teeth. The dog also had a bit of road rash, but the loyal four-legged friend made a full recovery.

Deputy Frazier suffered from a nasty cut on his forehead and sustained a couple of other minor injuries. The man was guided to a local hospital and was released shortly thereafter.

The Chief Deputy suspects that this despicable ambush is the work of one of the gangs in the area.

“We’ve been stressing this for months and months now. It’s no different from last week. We get a BOLO (be-on-the-lookout) from the state alerting us that the Black Gangster Disciples have put out an SOS, or Shoot on Sight, for police officers,” he said.

“It hits us hard, it brings you to your knees,” he added. “We’re not a large agency, and all these guys have families. The main thing for anybody is to go home safe. We want you to go home at night. But it could happen to any one of them. The threat is here and the possibility is real.”
