When we think about cops, we tend to imagine strong, stern figures of authority, upholding the letter of the law, punishing those who break the rules, and generally acting as guardians of the general public. In fact, we sometimes forget that they’re people, just like us.
Underneath the uniforms, they’re men and women with their own likes, dislikes, hobbies, and interests, and when they’re not on duty, you can see cops doing everything the rest of us do: going to ball games, playing with the kids, walking in the park, firing up the grill, and even dancing to the songs they love.
Well, Officer Jose Marrero was still in uniform and on duty while working at a football game, but he still couldn’t resist the need to bust a move when his favorite song started to play!
Officer Marrero was spotted at RV City in Jacksonville ahead of the Florida/Georgia football game.
One of Florida’s finest, he was supposed to be keeping an eye on the assembled sports fans and ensure that everyone behaved themselves, but when he heard the Cupid Shuffle, Officer Marrero just couldn’t help himself.
He joined in with the public in performing the moves to the classic dance track from 2007.
Like the Cha Cha Slide and other awesome dance blasts from the past, the Cupid Shuffle is one of those songs that simply makes you want to dance, and its power proved too great for Officer Marrero to handle.
Following Cupid’s instructions to the letter, Officer Marrero showed off his dancing abilities in style.
His fellow dancers smiled and admired in a mixture of surprise and delight as they watched the officer, in full uniform, wiggling his hips, waving his arms, and grooving from side to side.
One of Officer Marrero’s fellow officers was so impressed that they decided to record the performance and share it with the world.
The clip has been uploaded to Facebook and viewed more than half a million times, getting plenty more views on YouTube and other platforms too.
It’s an adorable video, showing a more human side of a police officer and reminding us all that they enjoy having fun and feeling good, just like the rest of us.
Many people who have seen the video have commented on how it made them think a little differently about police officers, while others praised Officer Marrero for having the confidence to simply be himself and have some fun with people, rather than focusing purely on policing them.
