Who says that police officers can’t cut loose and have a little fun? When called out to participate in the “lip sync challenge,” the Nixa Police Department managed to show the world they’re more than just heroes in blue.
Their version of the classic tune “Footloose” is sure to have you wanting to dance along too!
The internet was buzzing with videos from first responders who had taken on the lip sync challenge. The rules were pretty simple – they had to record themselves mouthing the lyrics to a song of their choice.
Each one was completely unique, with the departments choosing a variety of songs, styles, and even adding in dance choreography. In the end, a lot of them turned out quite impressive.
From popular songs like “Uptown Funk” and “Havana” – all the way to old-time classics like “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” (with a Top Gun twist), we were shown just how talented some our nation’s first responders really are.
Although each participant deserves recognition for their efforts, there were some that really stuck out from the rest. Kinda like the Nixa Police Department’s submission.
Kenny Loggin’s song “Footloose” is one that’s impossible to not groove along to. It’s fun, upbeat, and if you’ve seen the movie Footloose, you probably have Kevin Bacon dancing in your head every time you hear it.
The track climbed to the number one position of the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, becoming a memorable hit for Loggins.

Nixa PD’s video starts out with the chief busting out of his office yelling, “I thought this was a party, everybody dance!” In addition, there’s some confetti and toe-tapping to help introduce the scene.
That’s when the real party does in fact begin! The Nixa, Missouri officers don’t hold back – showing off their dance skills while lip-syncing to the song.
“Now I gotta cut loose – Footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes. Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees…”
What’s awesome is that the officers aren’t even the only ones dancing in the video. They actually got people in the community to participate as well. From kids to the elderly, the town of Nixa showed everyone how to get down to “Footloose.”
On their YouTube video it says:
“Thanks to Innovative Sound for providing sound for our impromptu public dance parties, and thanks to EVERYONE in the community who came out to cut loose with us! Ya’ll are too much fun!”
Their lip sync challenge submission is so entertaining and cleverly done that it made a splash when posted online. On Facebook alone, it was shared more than 63,000 times and has 2.3 million views.
The department pointed out how the officers volunteered their time to create the video and they didn’t spend money on filming.
“No budget, no production company (shot and edited by our Public Information Officer who studied film production), and all officers donated their time to participate. We believe in being responsible with tax payer dollars and we made an extra effort to do so while having fun.”
