As a parent, you’d do anything to witness all of your children’s milestones. You want to be by their side as much as possible.

It was a really important milestone for his kids and himself. Knowing that, he knew he had to be there no matter what.

Unfortunately, his trip back home didn’t go as smoothly as he wanted.

Mike was on his way to get home to Charlotte from Nashville where he was on a business trip. It was supposed to be a short flight but the thunderstorms caused all incoming flights to either get canceled or delayed.

The airline tried to help him by getting him on an earlier flight. In the process, however, he lost the original seat he was supposed to be on his scheduled flight. He ended up getting the very last available spot on the plane which was on the back row.

As if things weren’t already bad enough, the plane Mike was in was forced to circle the airport prior to making a landing. This delayed them further.

Mike recalled:

“I was sure there was no way I was going to make it. I knew it would take me thirty minutes to get off the plane and then I had about a thirty-minute drive from the airport.”

Before the plane made a final taxi towards the gate, something awesome happened.

After getting on board, Mike was able to talk to a flight attendant in the back. He told her that he’s probably going to end up in the doghouse because he’ll be missing the kids’ dance.

The flight attendant knew how important the event was for Mike and his kids. She made a surprising announcement just before they were completely on land.

“She told everyone there was a dad in the last row trying to make his twins’ father-daughter dance and we’d really appreciate it if you’d let him off the plane so he can get there.” -Mike recalled the flight attendant announced.

Everyone stayed in their spots and left the aisle clear for Mike to make a dash off the airplane. They rooted him on and even clapped as he hurriedly went down the aisle.

Mike made it to the dance and surprised his daughters and wife.

Although he was about 50 minutes late, his family didn’t mind. In fact, his wife got choked up after hearing his story.

Mike was also able to tell the amazing story to the other dads at the dance. And the next day, he was even more surprised to find that his story went viral online and his experience was getting tons of attention.

For Mike, the true hero in the story was the flight attendant and the passengers.

He never really asked to get off early. It was the flight attendant’s initiative and the goodness of the passengers that made it possible for him to be with his twins in their father-daughter dance.
