After months in quarantine, self isolation, and social distancing, people are ready to get out. Recently more and more places across the world have been opening back up to the public, like barber shops and restaurants, but things are definitely look a little different as people start to use these places again. The pandemic isn’t over, but since it’s safer to go out, there have been some creative ways that people are staying safe.
1. An employee using tongs to hand out masks
After customers use the hand sanitizer provided, this staff member uses tongs to provide everyone coming through the door with a mask.
2. A bag to store your mask at restaurants
One problem that restaurants have been running into now that they are able to open back up while still wearing face coverings, is what to do with those coverings while people eat. Obviously they need to placed in a sanitary and safe place, but what do you do with so many? This restaurant went the extra mile to provide a safe covering for your mask while you eat.
3. Sanitizing escalator
Using powerful UV light, this frequently touched surface is sanitized every time it runs through the small box at the top of the escalator. The handrail is small and compact enough that mall goes barely even notice it as they move down a level.

4. Robots that measure body temperature
There are a few more customers in this store, but they aren’t shopping. These robots floating around stores measure body temperature to ensure that customers don’t have fevers.
5. A hand washing station in Denmark
This market provides mobile hand washing stations. Not only does this encourage people to wash their hands more frequently since there are more opportunities, but the homeless population can do their part to stop the spread as well.
6. Glass dividers at a gym in Hong Kong
Just what everyone at the gym wanted, more privacy. Since social distancing is hard in a space with so many machines close together, these barriers provide extra safety between you and the person next to you.
7. Students eat lunch by themselves
These students in Hong Kong may be able to sit by their friends at lunch, but they won’t be able to talk to them with these new dividers slowing the spread of germs.
8. As schools reopen, everything is sanitized and scanned from head to toe
These young elementary students go through a whole process before entering the classroom. They are screened for a fever, their mouths are checked, their shoes and backpacks are spray sanitized before another spray sanitizers covers the rest of them.
9. This restaurant used pandas to demonstrate social distancing
To lift spirits just a little, this restaurant used pandas to show what eating at a safe distance looked like. The pandas also took the seats of patrons that would be too close to others, discouraging people from being too close and following all social distancing rules
10. This church enforces social distancing by closing off pews
In order to keep up with the many guidelines of social distancing, this church was forced to close off pews to half their congregation so that everyone was a safe distance apart.
11. This German Bar installed a spit guard
This bar wanted to open back up to patrons, but were still a little fearful. Their solution? A plexiglass barrier they called a spit guard to protect their bartenders from guests that get just a little too close.
12. Robot deliveries
This Chinese restaurant didn’t want to put the health of their employees at risk, so it invested in some new hires. These waiters and delivery boys never call in sick and won’t ever have to worry about getting sick, just make sure they’re charged up for their next shift.
13. Train stations look a little different with new painted floor signs
Instead of the typical ‘mind the gap’ message, this train station painted some new signs on the ground showing all commuters what six feet apart looks like.

Everyone knows that your phone is one of the most germ covered surfaces you own. This gym went above and beyond to install sanitizers so that everyones devices can be sanitized before heading into the shared space.

These students are not only getting used to wearing their masks daily, but also having screen protectors everywhere they go. these tri-folds on every desk ensure the safety of nearly every student and their teachers.
16. Creativity is students making their own ‘one-meter hats’ in elementary school
Who says social distancing has to be sad? This creative teachers encouraged students to decorate their social distancing hats to not only remind students to remain a safe distance apart, but to also distract them with creativity.
17. This restaurant designed retrofitted dividers to add to their booths
They’re hoping they’re temporary, this restaurant in Hong Kong added the extra precaution for the safety of their customers. These dividers look like they belong in the restaurant, but are in fact an extra safety precaution to keep guests apart where its a little more difficult to be six feet away from each other.
18. McDonalds has a thermal monitor
This McDonalds isn’t risking anything. They are having all customers’ temperatures taken the moment they walk into the place to make sure that no one with a fever is coming in.
19. Menus are only available online
The most touched item at a restaurant is the menu. A few restaurants have put their menus up on instagram to decrease the number of folks handling them.
20. Barbers in Bangladesh where full suits
These barbers were anxious to get back to business, but were not taking any chances at getting sick. Covered in plastic suits, masks, gloves, and glasses, these workers go on with their daily routine, embracing the new normal.
21. An automated hand sanitizer and table dividers at Starbucks
This Starbucks put a few things in place to ensure the safety of their customers. One thing is the glass dividers at the bar seating, and the other is an automated hand sanitizer every customer is expectd to use before ordering and sitting down.
22. Sidewalks are becoming wider
To encourage pedestrians to stay six feet apart, this little town has actually shortened their roads to increase sidewalk space. The move is only temporary since metal barriers are the only thing in place, but it just goes to show the extreme measures some places are going to.

Even the fancy clubs of the world are not immune to the impact of the pandemic. Though members are few, no one is exempt from getting their temperature taken before entering this club.
24. Air disinfectants
This gym has opened back up to the public, but has taken an extra step to keep more than just their machines clean. They have installed air purifiers in various spots to disinfect the air that patrons are breathing.
25. Acrylic barriers in Japan
Glass, plexiglass, nad acrylic barriers are a common tactic to ensure others safety, usually to separate workers from customers. But this restaurant installed them at individual tables to separate people who are there together.
26. Tables are required to be 5 feet apart in parts of Japan
One law in Japan is that it is mandatory tables are at a minimum of five feet apart. You can also see every waitstaff member wearing a mask and gloves to ensure the safety of guests.
27. Restaurants are taking social distancing seriously with tale spacing
This restaurant went to another level with the spacing of their tables, and only having a handful set up in the entire place. More restaurants are focusing on takeout and to-go orders rather than dining rooms.

These customers are enjoying themselves not at a pool party, but at the outdoor patio of a popular restaurant. To ensure everyone stays a safe distance apart, they all are wearing pool noodles on their hats to tell others not to get too close.

This McDonalds isn’t taking any chances and are doing more than just taking temperatures. They are also logging and taking phone numbers of every guest that comes in, just incase they needed to be contacted about someone having the disease at their location.
30. Starbucks is taping off every other seat
This Starbucks restaurant is taping off chairs to discourage people from sitting too close to each other. A lot of coffee shops with similar bar seating are doing the same thing, or removing the chairs altogether.
31. New lunch room standards
This may look like the cafeteria in a high school, but its actually the break room of a large tech company. Tables and chairs are divided up to separate people, and as always masks are encouraged.
32. Food stands look a little different
This food cart is wearing masks and has removed all seating in front of their cart. They probably should be wearing gloves, but not everyone takes things as seriously as others and some are willing to risk their health.

Though barriers are encouraged, some places don’t have the funds for fancy plexiglass barriers. This restaurant used their resources and simply used cardboard.

There have been plenty of automated hand sanitizers installed in places, but this restaurant was not stopping at hands. They installed a machine that not only disinfects hands, but the customer can walk up to it and turn around and have their whole body sprayed down
35. More places for eating for one
This ramen restaurant turned their bar area into private cubbies. With more restaurants following suit, its turned dining out into less of a group activity and more of a party of one activity.
36. This restaurant turned to-go
Just a curtain over the door is what turned this sit down restaurant into a take out only restaurant. Patrons are still able to get their favorite foods, the process just looks a little different now.
37. There are added messages to receipts
This customer was reminded of the expectations at the bottom of their receipt. This friendly reminder warned patrons that they should be wearing their mask at all times, except when eating, and to not place it on the table or remove it to talk to wait staff.
38. A certain flow of traffic
Who would have thought that there would be traffic signs in the aisles of a grocery store? This store encouraged social distancing by creating a certain flow of traffic that allows people to only move one way. No more awkward passing mid-aisle.
39. Face shields for Children in France
Face shields aren’t just for nurses and essential workers in hospitals anymore. These students in France have to wear the shields just like any other part of their daily routine.
40. Sports are forever changed
One thing that people have missed most is sporting events. Whether its playing them or watching them, they have been missed, but its hard to tell what normal will look like for these largely attended events.
41. Intimidating temperature taking
This man is just trying to enter a Mosque for worship, but it’s mandatory that his temperature is taken before entering. Everyone at the door is decked out in protective gear and armed with a thermometer making sure that no one has a fever.
42. Beaches attempt social distancing
Beaches are a hot spot for large crowds of people and with summer fast approaching it’s hard to keep them contained. This particular beach in Tel Aviv attempted to space guests out by placing the lounge chairs where they meet recommended guidelines.

These guys measure the distance between tables on a patio to make sure they are following the recommended guidelines.

45. Getting manicures looks a little different
Nail technicians are used to wearing masks, but with more safety measures in place, there have been a few things added to keep them safe. There are now total face shields in place and plexiglass barriers between them and their customers.
46. New waste removal technology in Thailand
This pandemic has inspired a lot of new innovations and inventions to benefit everyone. One new form of waste removal has been created in Thailand to safely dispose of trash to reduce the contact of waste and people.
47. Reduced outdoor seating
L.A is one densely populated area which calls for a lot of extra seating indoors and outdoors. Not this summer though. Patios are being packed up to accommodate with new social distancing rules.
48. Playgrounds look a little different
These kids finally get to enjoy the playground now that areas are opening back up, but they don’t look quite the same. With a number of kids wearing masks it gives a darker feel to a place that was once so happy.
49. No more overcrowded elevators
One thing good to come of social distancing orders is the respect of personal space. Now instead of something that some people followed, everyone has to follow. No more crowded elevators rubing shoulders with the person closest to you.
50. Employment checks
These officers are checking the work permission of an essential worker using public transport. To discourage an overabundance of people on the train, officers check to see that people have a legitimate place to go.
