Humans can do some amazing things! But it seems that we’ll never compare to what nature does every single day. From cats with thumbs to blossoms that look like skulls, here are a few of nature’s fascinating tricks.
1) One In A Chameleon
Okay, so they are iguanas, but you get the point. These Galapagos Marine Iguanas live off of the seaweed that floats on the ocean waters, an interesting creature indeed. Just like that crab that really does not care.
2) Every Kid’s Dream
Is it just me or do all kids dream of hopping across giant lilypads? These kids get to live out that dream because these pads are amazing! They even put plastic plates in them so you can float long safely.
3) That’s A Big Moth
His name is Attacus Atlas, which is a suitable name for such a majestic creature of good breeding. He is indeed as big as one’s forearm and just as gentle as can be. It’s creatures like this that make me believe in magic.
4) Perfect Balance, Grasshopper
The rocks on this lake get hot and melt the ice below them. When it gets cool again, the water starts to freeze again and creates a little stand for the rock. It is called the Baikal Dzen and it is beautiful.
5) The Azul Of The Sea
It does look like these fish absorbed all of the blue that the ocean contains. They aren’t chemically-altered, this is just what the Blue Lingcod looks like. It would feel funny eating blue fish!
6) He Has A Story
This fossil tells a story of a little starfish that could…until he could not. There’s something special about finding fossils because there is an entire life story to be told, it’s up to us to imagine what it could be.
7) What A View!
Crocodiles are freaky enough as they are, even without seeing them at such a terrifying angle. This was one lucky shot, but it took a brave soul to capture it. Is anyone else nervous just looking at it?
8) Fossil Flowers Are A Thing
This is an Agate Fossil Coral rock! All Agate Fossil Corals have tiny flowers in them. When you get them shaped and polished, you will have the prettiest gem that you’ve ever seen. Seriously, look them up.
9) The Life And Times Of A Cicada
The life of the cicada is a beautiful thing. This one was caught climbing out of his old skin. He has molted and is moving on to a better life, leaving his old one behind. His family will be so proud.
10) Siamese Flowers
This is a genetically mutated flower after the bloom. You could say it’s two flowers because there are two blossoms or one flower because there is one stem. It’s all in how you look at it.
11) What A Pretty Melon
This watermelon was seedless and it had a gorgeous pattern. Do you think it tasted as good as it looks? To be fair, it was overly ripe, hence the pattern and orangeness, but at least it was pretty.
12) Christmas Tree?
Not that kind of Christmas tree! But this tree’s red and green pattern does remind me of Christmas. You wonder what happens to cause such a shedding when the other trees seem to be doing fine.
13) The Ghost Forest
This is known as the Neskowin Ghost Forest in Oregon. Those “rocks” are actually petrified remains of old trees. To make things creepier, there seems to be a village on the cliff up there.
14) Starberry Patch, Anyone?
If someone invented a “starberry” or a berry shaped like a flower that tasted like a strawberry, they’d probably be rich in no time. These things are adorable and have even less green than normal.
15) She Was Pregnant!
This big orange was pregnant whenever she was picked and there was a baby orange inside of her. At least everyone made it out okay. Now they both get to be enjoyed by someone who will appreciate them.
16) She Is An Amazing Contractor
Seriously, this spider is a boss at building webs. This one is perfectly spun and insulated. She even made sure that there was an opening into the tree so she had more room than if she were to live on the web.
17) The Tree Is Melting
The way this tree root is growing makes it look like the tree is melting. But really, it’s just wet and mossy. It will make you hop out of the way the first time you see it though and is great for playing tricks on kids.
18) She’s Safe And Secure
This caterpillar stitched herself into a little nest on the fabric of this outdoor lounge. Now she’s double-protected why she pretty much melts herself so she can be reformed. It’s a tough life.
19) It’s A Starry Day
Did you bling a few times? This flower takes us into deep space. It looks like a photo effect but that’s actually what these Night Sky Petunias look like and this one is especially gorgeous.
20) Tennis, Anyone?
Hail is fine, you know, but when the balls of ice are the size of your hand, you fear for your life, your car, and the well-being of the city. Imagine being caught outside when these were coming down.
21) Not Edible
This rock looks like something creamy and vanilla-flavored. But it’s actually just a pretty rock that was cut in half. You never know what you’ll find when you cut open a rock but it surely will be amazing.
22) Does Not Tap For Mana
This is the gorgeous Black Hellebore. Though it looks like a Christmas rose, it is not in the rose family. It’s just a beautiful flower that deserves all of our love and appreciation. Why aren’t there more of these?
23) It’s A New Trend
This boot could inspire a new trend in mossy shoes, especially boots like these. It was found in the woods. No one knows how long it had been there but nature was trying to make sure it became one with the earth.
24) Make A Countertop
Is this where countertops are made? This rock has a separate line of quartz that is perfectly straight across it. They say nature doesn’t make straight lines but it looks like they defied nature with this one.
25) That’s Not A Lemon
Although this is growing on a lemon tree, it looks to be a Buddha’s Hand. Which is actually pretty lucky considering they are worth quite a bit more. This kid found one at his grandma’s house!
26) It’s A Lucky Dinner
So, he found a pearl in his oyster at dinner. Since he already paid for the dinner, it is his! Pearls that are natural are worth quite a bit of money. Especially of you don’t do anything to them first.
27) If I Was A Fungus
If I were a fungus, I’d want to be this one because it is beautiful. I’ve never seen such a pretty fungus before and I doubt many people have seen a bright blue one either. She is definitely the talk of the forest.
28) Quadruplanana
That almost worked. This banana comes with four in one peel. They are all separate but also all one-in-the-same. What a funny set they are and they are even mini bananas which makes them even cuter.
29) Did You See Them Scream?
It might take a minute to spot the unique thing about this butterfly. But when you see it, you can’t unsee it. The top of his wings have “Scream” faces while the bottom is singing opera.
30) There’s No Descrepancy
People see different things in clouds. But if you don’t see a helicopter in this one Athens something is wrong with you. That is a helicopter and nothing else. And something about it starts with an “S.”
31) I’ma Head Out
This palm tree is ready to get up and walk away. Guess he’s tired of all of the other palm trees and their gossiping. It’s none of their business what he was doing with his coconuts last Saturday.
32) Eye Of The Storm
Seeing pictures of the eye of a storm never gets old. It makes you thankful that you’ve never seen one up close. It may be calm in the center, but seconds later, you just may face your doom.
33) Pretty And Dangerous
This jellyfish is pretty on top and looks like a pool floatie. But underneath, it’s a dangerous machine that kills fish in one shock and keeps them on his tentacles. Again, they are actually called tentacles.
34) His Tail Is Longer Than His Body
This lizard is quite long, but what’s even more interesting is that his tail is even longer than the rest of his body. Oh yes, and that he’s a gorgeous blue! He kind of looks like a gummi lizard.
35) Trees Need To Chill
Trees really don’t care what is in their way, they will grow over it and make a mess while they do it. They are one of the strongest and most stubborn beings in earth, yeah, they are beings.
36) A World Inside A Tomato
For some reason, this tomato couldn’t wait and the seeds inside of it began to sprout right out! I wonder how long they will grow and when the tomato will give up on her own life to make room for her babies.
37) When The Wind Blows
This must have been slightly devastating. To wake up and all of your neatly lined up boats be smashed all together. They couldn’t have made it out without any boat casualties. It just shows you the power of nature.
38) A Crack In Time
These treetops will make you dizzy if you stare long enough. But they are just natural. The reason behind this is likely that the trees are afraid that if they touch the other tree, they will hurt themselves. Sounds silly, but it’s true.
39) New Netflix Movie?
Thsi definitely looks like the cover picture for a new Netflix movie that I want to watch. There’s probably a whole world inside of that lock and we’ve only see the surface of it. What would happen if the worlds were merged?
40) Pull Up A Chair
This rude tree is growing over this bench so no one can use it. At this point, it’s a cool seat. But it won’t be long until the bench was just a memory that only the boomers remember. It was such a good bench too.
41) It’s Not All Lava
Did you know that smoke can be even more disastrous than fire? This is what a volcano looks like after an eruption. It’s scary to think about and it seems to scream of impending doom.
42) That’s A Big Banana
This banana is as big as this guy’s forearm! That’s a big banana! He even has coffee and Golden Grahams to eat with it so this light breakfast just turned into a big one. Could have had bacon.
43) Bushy Brows
At first glance, this frosty recess looks like an eye and the trees above it like a bushy eyebrow. It is a perfectly shaped cat eye and it makes me wish my eyes were shaped like this giant snow monster’s.
44) Someone Is Funny
Not sure of nature or the human is more interesting this time. The giant overgrowth on the pole is one thing but the Marge Simpson portrait just made this headshot. So well done that this person could be a graffiti artist. In a way.
45) Picturesque Disaster
Now this is a pretty picture. Not as “perfect” as the previous eruption but it’s as every bit as awesome. The word awesome is often overused. But to be in “awe” of something doesn’t occur that often.
46) He Needs His Own Horror Movie
If this was the 60s, then he would definitely have a horror movie and people would be freaked out by hammerhead bats from then on out. He is kind of cute, though, just mostly scary.
47) Rainshowers From Afar
People who live in the city may never see a rainshower from afar. For those people, this is what it looks like. A foggy cloud that envelops the area. It isn’t a tornado, just a little bit of rain.
48) Good Luck Getting Home
This is what the roads in Dubai look like after a sandstorm. Wouldn’t it be quite a difficult task to drive home on these? It doesn’t look real but it is in fact what happens after a sandstorm.
49) Nature Has Marbles
This piece of sea glass is almost perfectly spherical. It makes you wonder if it’s real or not. But you can tell by the texture that it is, in fact, a real marble created by the sea from clear bottles and such found in the ocean.
50) Nature, You Say?
Well, yes, no one drew inside of this tree, the tree grew over a trail sign and left nothing but the little hiking man as proof. Do you think he changed the trail for good or just removed warning signs?
51) The World Is Next
These sawfly larvae will surely conquer the world. Right now, they are working on this leaf but they are moving over it so fast that I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole tree was down in a week.
52) Imagine This Exploding
This giant puffball mushroom was actually chopped up and cooked. Surely it could feed one hundred people with a tasty mushroom soup? Unless these are the ones that make smoke clouds, gosh, I hate those.
53) I Eatz You
I think I’m in love with this Ouroborus Baby Dragon! He’s an armadillo lizard that insists on curling up and biting his own tail. Do you think it’s a defence mechanism or something else?
54) What A Lucky Cat
Imagine that cats evolve and start growing thumbs! That would be crazy! Cats with thumbs might just rule the world. They do enough as it is, so adding thumbs may just make them unstoppable.
55) From Flowers To Stars
While the juicy “Starberries” are cute, these dainty things might sell even better because they would look awesome in salads. Maybe serve both so people can choose chunky or slim. It’s a tough choice.
56) Looks Like A Sea Rift
While this looks like ripples in the waters, it’s actually the freaky sawfish, also known as carpenter fish. Sure, it looks like a chainsaw, but it’s actually relatively harmless. Doens’t mean anyone wants to go near it.
57) Holding It Up In Rememberance
This tree accidentally broke this headstone. It looks like he felt so bad about it that he made sure that he grew over the top and held it up for all eternity. No one will forget you, old friend.
58) Okay, Roadrunner
A storm actually picked up this road and moved it. That seems dangerous and frightening. It would be hard not to let instincts force you to drive off the side of the road when you come upon it.
59) Death Blossoms?
These pretty yellow flowers are Snadragons and they have seed pods that look like skulls. Great for Halloween or those who want to have skulls hanging from trees in their backyard. Not a bad idea.
60) That’s Quite A Twister
This is what a tree can look like after a tornado runs through it. You wouldn’t think that it would actually twist it without taking it out by the roots but it’s guy managed to hang on by a thread.
