If we’re all being honest with ourselves, some museums can get a tad…boring. Now for me, I enjoy interactive museums and those with large dinosaur bones (yes, I’m a child), but while I do appreciate fine art, I just do not enjoy walking through room after room after room of paintings of portraits of people I don’t know and landscapes that blend together after a while. Call me uncultured or whathaveyou but hey, I’m just being honest.
That said, I’m not the only person out there who needs to create their own form of entertainment while walking through an art museum. In fact, one guy goes so far as to entertain himself by creating art of his own! (GASP)
Photographer Stefan Draschan trolls the museums of France just waiting for people to come along who match great paintings, tapestries, and other fine art. With what must be endless amounts of patience, he waits for that perfect moment when the real world and the artworks adorning the walls become one. And the results are spectacular.
If you struggle to appreciate fine art–or even if you already appreciate it!–these 30 photos of people matching artworks serve as a great way to make even the dullest of portraits relateable.
1. Let’s start with my favorite. Notice how even the baseboard of the museum wall mimics the walking stick in the portrait.
2. Does this woman know that she is actually enhancing this piece of abstract art?
3. I feel like this woman intentionally dressed to match Monet’s Water Lilies series.
4. This patron has found her people.
5. Talk about luck–2 for the price of 1!
5. These flowers seem to be growing from her outfit (which, might I add, is on point).
6. Almost a perfect match. Look at the little 4-point star details on the tapestry and her dress. Coincidence? I think not.
7. Meet the Duke and Dutchess.
8. Honest to god thought that man was a statue.
9. It looks as if the rays of sun have reached beyond the painting to shed its light on this woman’s sweater.
10. To climb or not to climb, that is the question.
11. I just love everything about this photo.
12. Another instance in which the subject enhances the painting.
13. Yessss.
14. Ricoooolllaaa!
15. “Ah, I remember that day,” is what she seems to be thinking.
16. It’s like looking in a mirror.
17. Once a classy woman, always a classy woman.
18. “I know the perfect place to hide,” she thought. “But first, let me grab my watercolor shirt!”
19. Not sure what to look at here, the shirt or the painting.
20. And then, he was cast down to live his life amongst mere mortals.
21. Apparently, if you want to blend in, just go to an art museum.
22. Seriously.
23. When your soulmate lived centuries before your time…
24. Ah, what a feeling it must be to know that one was immortalized in plaster.
25. It’s like she knew she was going to see “Eichbaum im Schnee” (‘Oak tree in the snow’). See, I know my art.
26. I wish my hair looked like a sunset people wanted to paint.
27. She matches quite well, but I have a feeling if she was actually there she would have looked quite out of place.
28. A dark lord watches over her people.
29. Even the hair!
30. And finally…That shirt though!
