Alligator comes from “el lagarto”
Basically, our word for alligators comes from English-speaking people badly butchering the Spanish term for “the lizard.” El Lagarto said quickly can start to sound a lot like alligator.

Dogs have very particular pooping preferences
Do you ever wonder why your dog seems very particular about lining up where they squat to do their business? Turns out they are trying to operate their internal compass when they do this.
Dogs poop in alignment with Earth’s magnetic field,
dogs use Earth’s magnetic fields to align their bowel and bladder movements – and they prefer to relieve themselves along a north-south axis. In fact, canines will actively avoid going to the bathroom in an east-west direction https://t.co/EQ0nDZ08xj

Koalas are not perfect, we get it, Jessi!
Boy, Jessi really decided to slander the good name of Koalas in this post. Koalas only eat eucalyptus and sleep a large percentage of the time. They are very particular in their diet but we disagree with Jessi and think that Koalas are very smart, just in their own way.
Koalas are really really not smart.
If you change the form of their food (put eucalyptus on a plate, for example) they will starve to death rather than eat it bc they can't recognize it. https://t.co/732YnZKErZ— Jessi (@OlMumsyJess) January 28, 2020
And another one about Koalas…
Danielle is actually slightly wrong here, female koalas technically have 3 vaginas. It is a single opening to the exterior that branches into 3. Male koalas also have a forked penis. These were certainly some random koala facts.

Mad scientists exist and they are doing horrible things to mice.
This is a thing. Experts are learning more and more about the importance of gut health to mood and mental well-being. Nothing in this study is helping that, however. In the study referenced here, “researchers” shoved the feces of stressed-out mice and put it in relaxed mice and made them anxious. Why not do it the other way around? Jerks. Jerk scientists.
Scientists did fecal transplants with mice and they found that if you take poop from a stressed out mouse and put it into the butt of a chill mouse it becomes depressed and anxious. https://t.co/uOj1sSJ8ZN

Chainsaws were invented for childbirth. I repeat. Chainsaws were invented for childbirth.
This horrifying fact is absolutely true. Scottish doctors/surgeons John Aitken and James Jeffray invented the chainsaw in the 1780s to help with difficult childbirth. Later, the invention would be used by Leatherface as a murder weapon in a very successful horror movie franchise.

You are never in the moment.
If someone ever tells you how important it is to “be present” or “in the moment” now you can tell them that what they are saying is impossible. We are always a few moments behind. So don’t even bother to meditate or do yoga or anything, just live in the past and/or live for the future.
No matter how fast our brain can process information, it can never be fast enough to experience the actual present moment. Everything we experience is in the past.

Why do we get heart shapes so wrong?
Have you ever wondered why the symbol we use for hearts is so inaccurate? Well, it turns out that symbol actually comes from Silphium. Romans really did eat the herb extinct.
The reason we associate the shape ❤️w/ love is because there was an herb named silphium that had seeds that shape. Silphium was such an effective birth control that the Romans ate it extinct. It was the basis of some economies, worth its weight in gold.

The word “testimony” sure has an interesting history.
We were certain this would turn out to be false when we looked it up but nope, this Tweet is correct. “Testimony” does indeed come from the fact that men would grab their testicles while swearing they would tell the truth in ancient Greece. Isn’t history super fun sometimes?
The word “testimony” is derived from the Greek word for “testicle” (meaning “little witness) because in Greco-Roman times, only adult men could bear witness. When they did, they grabbed their junk and said “I swear by my ability to bear children that what I’m saying is true.”
