Everyone has a gift. For some, it’s the simple act of listening while for others, they have an uncanny ability to either make or fix anything. We all admire those individuals because they can do things we can’t. While no one can explain it, these people have a special knack unlike a lot of us. As a matter of fact, many of them grow up to be successful engineers.
Then there’s another group of people who make or fix things that we like to refer to as “natural-born engineers.” Let’s just say they try…or we think they do. Regardless, these are the individuals who might want to focus on a career other than engineering.
If you’re confused, these 55 examples will clear things up…quickly. Enjoy.
You probably know that line from the scary movie, “The Shining.” So, if you ever have a roommate who likes to punch holes through doors, you could do what this individual did. Yep…that’ll work.
2. When in a pinch…use an apple
On the one hand, this is kind of brilliant. On the other hand, does the person who did this realize that in about 48 hours the apple will turn to mush? If not, they’re in for a big surprise…and not the good kind.
First, this person couldn’t find their shoes. Second, they’re doing some kind of foot softening treatment. Third, they don’t care. Yeah, we’re leaning toward number three because it’s the only one that makes any sense.
When a local convenience store had a “bring your own cup” sale, the kiddie pool shouldn’t quality. You’re just being greedy. You need to save some for the customers who actually followed the rules and brought a cup.
Our only question — does this person have to reach around to turn the flashlight on or does it come on when they peddle? If it’s that latter, they might have a career in engineering. Otherwise, this looks ridiculous.
6. Sometimes, you have to improvise
There’s just one issue with this solution. TP and coffee filters aren’t made with the same type of paper. So, as long as no one minds tiny bits of toilet paper in their cup of java, this is fine.
We understand that people love the “bring your own cup” promotion but this is taking it a little bit too far. Honestly, who cares if that’s a new toilet or not…this is downright gross. Major engineering fail.
8. They might be onto something
Anyone who turns an umbrella upside down to keep their adorable pup dry in the rain gets five stars as far as we’re concerned. This might’ve been an “on the fly” decision but it’s priceless.
After tripping over the same small ledge on the concrete sidewalk, one person decided to do something about so others wouldn’t fall. While that was a really nice thing to do, considering that people don’t pay attention to where they’re going, we doubt it did much good. Nice try, though.
10. Hamburger enhancement
No, this gentleman isn’t tipping his hat. If you look closely, you’ll notice something underneath it. While he loves going to his favorite burger joint, they’re too skimpy on the cheese. Problem solved.
Without question, trying to eat a bagel and enjoy a beverage while driving is quite the challenge. But this guy figured out a way to make it easier. But what happens when he gets to the last bite?
12. So, that’s what they’re for
We’ve all seen these, you know, dead rubber chickens. But we’ve also wondered what in the world you’re supposed to do with them. Well, now we know. Mystery solved.
If people need a doormat to remember basic things in life, they might have a much bigger problem than forgetfulness. We’re kind of surprised it doesn’t also list “breathe.”
14. A dog leash and a hook…
…that’s all you need to ensure you never drop a book in the bathtub again. But won’t the pages get wet when turning them? Okay, in all fairness, this contraption was created by a five-year-old. As an adult, she might succeed in engineering.
It might not be the most attractive solution but it works. Then again, someone should tell this guy that he can buy a new faucet sprayer for about $15. It’s just a suggestion.
You might think this is bizarre but in states like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida, people do this. Just imagine spending a few hours shopping only to return to your car for some delicious, hot baked cookies.
Yeah, the same people who bake cookies in their vehicle make breakfast like this. If it’s going to save money on utilities and it gets the job done, why not? We wonder what they do for dinner.
Although creating a tea mug using duct tape might work, we’re pretty sure customers might consider shopping elsewhere. Especially when they’re in a home improvement store. This doesn’t represent the company very well.
While this is actually kind of clever, do these people know that stealing a shopping cart is a crime. Just cook your hamburgers quickly and then hide the evidence.
20. Desperate times call for desperate measures
For people who love pizza but can’t stand eating it cold, we suppose this is one solution. But this idea is so far out in leftfield, we want to know who came up with it.
Okay, the delivery person was doing something nice by trying to protect the customer’s package from porch pirates. But since their door prevented the package from going all the way through the mail slot, it was a failed attempt.
22. It’s the thought that counts
This homeowner has a cat. So, they built a little ramp, making it possible for him to get inside the house. We hate to tell you this but your kitty could easily jump in the window without this unsightly ramp.
For this person’s cat to reach the second-floor balcony, a ramp would be necessary. But what do you want to bet it won’t take long for the neighbors to file a complaint with the rental office?
Looking at this photo, we don’t know whether to laugh or applaud these homeowners. It’s obvious they didn’t want to harm the trees when having their fence built. But wasn’t there a more rational option?
Although the younger, more tech savvy generation might love this idea, people in their 40’s and older are going to balk at it. Shoot, a lot of them just got used to using a single keyboard and then manufacturers go and do this.
From the looks of it, one man is very frugal. Instead of hiring a company to trim his hedges, he came up with a unique solution. We hope he has good healthcare insurance.
27. No one will ever notice…
…except everyone who gets inside this man’s car. If this is how he fixes something on his vehicle, we can only imagine what repairs he made inside his house. His poor wife.
When a dad asked his son to fix the broken showerhead, this wasn’t quite what he had in mind. Not only did he save him $30 but he also came up with a solution that works. Dad’s on his way to the hardware store right now.
This is another natural-born engineer who appears to have a bright future. This might be a little on the quirky side but for dogs that don’t like to leave their humans’ laps, it’s perfect. We’ll give this two thumbs up.
We have no idea where this is located but someone should’ve come up with this a long time ago. Now, instead of carrying your bike up the stairs, you can push it up using the small tire track.
Unless someone was told, they’d never notice what was going on with this couch. The individual who did this is a genius…okay, not even close.
Depending on how you look at this photo, the individual who did this was either super lazy or incredibly smart. Personally, we think it might be a little bit of both.
For those of you who didn’t know, before riding lawnmowers were invented, this is how people cut their grass. Okay, we’re kidding. While it might look like a great idea, we kind of have our doubts.
Well, it seems so. To this homeowner, buying a replacement garage door sometime down the road would be less expensive than purchasing a new vehicle. Hopefully, this doesn’t lower the home value for the other neighbors.
35. Living in the wrong era
A young girl discovered that her cell phone fit perfectly inside the space for the headrest. Was that by design or did she uncover something incredible? If the latter, she’s way beyond her years.
This individual believes his bike is perfectly safe. And it might be unless thieves decide they want it bad enough. In that case, they’ll just take the bike and the car.
While at the Australia Open, someone snapped a photo of a woman using a map to cover her head from the sun. Let’s hope she didn’t need that cutout portion to find her way back home. That’d suck.
Sure, in a pinch, this would work. But somehow, putting a fork wrapped in tape doesn’t sound very appetizing. And it probably feels really weird.
Wouldn’t it take forever to cook spaghetti noodles in a coffee pot? They have a crockpot right next to it…surely, that’d work better. This just looks revolting.
Are you looking for an affordable and fast way to defrost your car windows? Well, here it is. Now, you’ll notice we didn’t say attractive because this is one ugly solution.
This individual didn’t think metal was necessary to build a motorcycle and he was right. Let’s hope he never has to deal with termites or wood rot. Here’s to safe riding.
Don’t you hate it when a fan doesn’t cool the right area? It seems this person agrees. So, with a hanger, they took care of the problem.
This is when someone should invest in a taller ladder. Who in their right mind would think this was okay? That fall is going to hurt.
This is kind of cool. If the person plays this off right, they might be able to convince others they purchased this clock because of its unique design.
45. Nope…that’s not going to work
Whoever came up with this idea should definitely focus on any other field than engineering. They also need to call either the fire department, the code inspector, or a contractor ASAP…probably all three.
While we don’t know for sure, we’re betting this car didn’t pass inspection. Yes, using a mirror attached to a brush is brilliant just not particularly safe. Way to think outside of the box.
47. Failed inspection number two
There’s no way this individual thought it was okay to use a yellow medicine bottle as part of the headlight. Or did they? We’re hoping they took the pills out first. There are no words.
48. Failed inspection number three
What’s with all these car owners who think they don’t have to follow the law? In this case, the driver thought using magic marker would be just fine. Well, it’s not and they don’t look anything like the real headlights.
For people who can’t stand round meat hanging over square bread, they can do what this person did. In a strange sort of way, it’s kind of cool.
50. Hate it when that happens
After dropping and breaking his wife’s favorite wine glass, this guy knew he had to do something and fast. So, this was the remedy. She’ll never notice. This might a really good time to go buy that diamond ring she’s been eyeing.
…when they have a husband who can do this? In response to his wife asking him to fix the toilet, he put his plan into motion. Does anyone want to take bets on just how unhappy she was?
Instead of becoming an engineer, this person would probably do far better in comedy. Especially considering they thought this would actually create hot water for the shower.
We have to give this individual major kudos for putting Legos to good use. There probably isn’t another person on the planet who can say they have a Lego knife block. Engineering is their calling.
Now when grandma and grandpa want to have some fun, they can. All they need are some seatbelts and kids to start pushing.
55. Is this really necessary?
The company that manufactured this wok probably upped the price by $10 just by showing people how much one teaspoon of oil is versus one tablespoon. And sadly, a lot of people bought it.
