If there’s one song that is perhaps one of the most popular and critically acclaimed ones out there, it is without a doubt “Imagine” by John Lennon.
This masterpiece by the late musical genius was written in just an early morning and Lennon even composed the piece in a single take. The song, originally from 1971, has now been given a new breath of life thanks to the wildly popular acapella group Pentatonix.
The five acapella singers of the famous group – Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado and Avi Kaplan – have proven their musical talent over and over again with stunning covers and original songs. In the past, they’ve covered hit titles such as Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, but now the group reworks perhaps the most influential song of all time.
A lot of different artists have covered Imagine, but it’s really hard to find any artist – except for the original of course – that comes close to the group’s rendition.
The five distinct yet fantastic vocals blend in perfectly with the song and with each other, which results in a truly touching musical performance.
The lyrics of “Imagine” are very clear. John Lennon has a dream of a peaceful, joyful world where everyone gets along. That message is something that Pentatonix wants to spread further and they have incorporated it into their music video.
The five members of the music group are seen holding signs in the music video. Each time one of the signers flip over a board, a word is revealed to support people and to stand up for a more inclusive community.
Pentatonix held up boards with “LGBTQ+”, “Man”, “Jewish”, “American”, “Black”, “Latina” and “Woman”. A truly beautiful message embodied in a brilliant song.
With almost 14 million views on YouTube, this cover of Pentatonix ranks among their top videos. The acapella group released an album including a number of classics and hit songs titled “PTX VOL. 4”.
After the video was uploaded, the comment section quickly became filled with dozens of messages in support and admiration of the group.
