Have you ever been to a bar with a unique take on decor? I think it’s important for a bar to have something eye catching or a distinct theme, to help them stand out and be memorable!
The Sand Bar, in Tybee Island, Georgia, had a great method of keeping people interested in what was on the walls!
Their signature mark was bills stapled to the wall!
It was a great way for customers to leave their mark, and cheap too! Customers could write their names on a dollar bill and leave it stapled to the wall. After fifteen years of being in business, The Sand Bar was suitably covered in money! Check out the far wall in the image below!
Some of those bills are over a decade old!
It looks like a really fun lively crowd in there, right?
Well, sadly, with recent events and quarantines and the like, The Sand Bar had to close for the foreseeable future. This left a lot of their workers without any kind of income.
Jennifer Knox, the owner of the Sand Bar for the past six years, resolved to do something to help her employees.
“I can’t just sit here and do nothing, I’ll do what I can for my people.” -Jennifer Knox
The Sand Bar pulled $3,714 down off their walls, and they didn’t use it in any way that could be considered selfish. They split the money up among their staff! They had a couple extra donations as well which, when combined with the bills from the wall, totalled to about $4,100 all in all!

The process of preparing the bills actually took a few days, and a few volunteers as well! The bills had to be taken down gently, and cleaned to be considered viable tender again.
Some of the bills apparently had dozens of staples in them!
Those walls got a fresh coat of paint after taking all those bills down, and it looks great! A win-win!
And Knox’s hard work didn’t stop there! She started a fundraiser on Venmo after seeing the positive response she got for donating the Sand Bar bills to her staff!
Because her community is small (a population of around 3000) and reliant on tourism dollars during the summer, she thought she might be able to help in this way!
“We all look out for each other. We are all in this together.” -Jennifer Knox
This isn’t the first kindness Jennifer Knox has done for her community either, she’s had a donation box in the bar for some time as well, to help give to those in need!
She is really looking out for her community!
Thanks for setting such a great example for all of us to follow, Jennifer!
And already the community is thanking Knox for her hard work and love that she’s putting in for them!
Now, it’s not just her community, but people from all across the world have heard about her acts of kindness, and people are
eager to show their support in these days of anxiety!
