It was a Tuesday afternoon when AeroMĂ©xico Flight 2431 took off from the General Guadalupe Victoria International Airport in the northwestern Mexican state of Durango.
Inside the plane were 103 people.
Of that number, 99 were passengers, 2 were pilots, and 2 were flight attendants.
After taking off, the flight bound for Mexico City was suddenly hit by a strong gust of wind.
The wind stopped the engines.
According to reports, two of the planeâs engines were knocked off as a result of the strong winds.
Then the plane went through some scrubland until it stopped 328 yards from the runway.
Some of the passengers recalled seeing the left engine burst into flames.
They all felt the plane hit the ground and, as they recalled it, they were like tiny people inside a box, being shaken violently.
It all happened so fast.
People saw smoke and fire, and everyone was panicking.
They couldnât stand or seek help.
You just grab whatever you can to stay put, and find a way out as soon as you can.
Some of them felt like being pushed aside, some became dizzy, and some screamed for their dear life.
There were also some passengers who took photos and videos.
Upon seeing the photos of the AeroMĂ©xico Flight 2431, you would think the worst.
But a miracle happened.
Not one single life of the 103 passengers was lost that day. Not one.
Authorities said that a total of 49 people were hospitalized. Most of them had minimal injuries.
Among them were a pastor and a priest.
They were also with some of their church members.
Pastor Ramin Parsa, one of the passengers who took video of the plane crashing, can be heard saying his praises to God.
âIn Jesusâ name,â he said, while we can hear screams and a baby crying.
He knew they were in grave danger, but his faith in God was very strong.
He prayed.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Des Plaines also said that the Rev. Esequiel Sanchez was among the passengers of the AeroMĂ©xico.
He, among some of his colleagues, went on a tour to celebrate his birthday.
Rev. Sanchez was thankful to have escaped the tragic crash with a broken arm and some lacerations.
Alberto Herrera, who was with Rev. Sanchez, said a prayer after they got out.
âWe said a prayer for everybody on board. There was like 20 of us, we didnât know if everybody got out we were just hoping for the best that everybody got out,â he explained in an interview with NBC 5.
Everyone helped each other to get out of the plane.
They all tried their best to help.
âItâs kind of a miracle we all made it. Itâs just a blessing we can tell the story,â added Herrera.
People have also praised the crew and the pilot, who handled the situation amazingly well.
According to reports, AeroMĂ©xico Flight 2431âs pilot, Capt. Carlos Meyran, suffered the most severe injuries.
And yet, he also lived.
“Sometimes, we take our lives for granted. And I am so glad that I am alive,” said Pastor Parsa.
For the people who were inside that plane, it was a miracle.
Some people and experts say that it was because of the grassland or because of the plane’s design.
For the survivors, it’s a different story.
Because of their willingness to live, their faith, and their prayers, they all came out alive to tell us their story.
