A recent school shooting in Kentucky has left the country stunned. School is supposed to be a safe place for students to learn. Neither they nor their parents should have to worry about them getting hurt or dealing with something like a school shooting.

On Jan. 23, two students lost their lives and 18 were injured.

One of the students who didn’t survive the shooting was Bailey Holt. Bailey’s parents, Secret and Jasen Holt, have talked about the incident and the heartbreak they are dealing with after the loss of their daughter.

Bailey spent her last few moments alive trying to call her mother. When her mom received the call, all she could hear were voices. She had no idea her daughter was dying on the other end of the call. After Bailey’s parents learned that there was a shooting, they rushed to find their daughter.

Sadly, she was not among the surviving students.

Secret talked about the incident, saying:

“She called me and all I could hear was voices, chaos in the background. She couldn’t say anything, and I tried to call her name over and over and over and she never responded.”

Bailey was only 15 and had her entire life ahead of her. Secret said that Bailey already had a plan for the future and knew that she wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. She was also incredibly kind and friendly.

Secret continued:

“She helped others — she was just so kindhearted and the most amazing kid anybody could ever ask for. Her smile could light up the room.”

The family is having a hard time understanding how fast their lives have changed and are coping with the fact they won’t see their beloved daughter ever again.

The shooter, age 15, has been charged as an adult with 12 counts of first-degree assault and two counts of murder.

Bailey’s parents are torn on whether they should attend the trial. On one hand, they want to see the man who took their daughter away from them, but they aren’t sure if they will be able to handle it.

Secret added:

“I don’t know if I can go to court and see him. I just don’t know if I can, but I want him to pay for everything he’s done. I also want to pray for him, too, because I know he’s probably having a hard time too, but he took our baby. He still took my baby from me.”

Bailey’s family wants to honor her memory and knows that they should celebrate her life.

Both parents believe that their daughter would want them to forgive the shooter.

Her aunt Tracy Tubbs said:

“She would absolutely tell us all to stop all the fuss, not to be angry, forgive him and pray for his mom. She would, in a heartbeat, stand by those words. She would not have an angry bone in her body. She would rather us turn our pain into something good, and that’s the best way we are going to represent her life.”

Bailey’s classmates and friends are also mourning her loss.

The entire community is shocked by the shooting. Hopefully, they all can find some peace and Bailey’s memory will be honored in a way that would make her proud. Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
