Most contestants that audition on reality TV talent shows have interesting stories to tell. However, some have more difficult backgrounds than others.
When 43-year-old Pablo Lopez stepped onto the stage of “Mexico’s Got Talent,” he wasn’t your typical singer hoping to become a star. He was kicked out of his adoptive parents’ home at the age of 18, and was busking in the subway of Mexico City to survive.
But like many others, Pablo decided to test his talent on national TV in front of judges, an audience, and all the viewers at home.
It can’t be easy to audition on the Got Talent shows, especially since some of the judges can be quite opinionated. This is why if you’re going to give it a try – it’s important that you’re able to shine.
The judges couldn’t have known what to expect when Pablo walked in front of them with the help of his cane. After they learned more about the street performer, it was finally time to see what he was capable of.
Usually, the most entertaining auditions are the ones that take everyone completely by surprise. From little kids that sing opera, to elderly people that can dance – it’s fun to watch the reactions’ of the judges and crowd.
Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” began to play, but it wasn’t until Pablo opened his mouth that all jaws hit the floor.
Not only did Pablo sing the iconic tune in English, but his voice was incredible. He sounded just like a version of Mr. Seger himself!
“Just take those old records off the shelf – I’ll sit and listen to ’em by myself. Today’s music ain’t got the same soul – I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll.”
The panel of judges couldn’t contain their priceless reactions.
It’s as if they couldn’t believe what they were hearing. All their mouths hung wide, and one judge looked like he was covered in goosebumps.
Pablo poured his heart and soul into the performance which turned the auditorium into a real rock concert. Crowd members rose to their feet to clap along. Then the same chilled judge got up so he could dance.
His voice is just that powerful and energetic.
Bob Seger recorded “Old Time Rock and Roll” in 1978 for his album Stranger in Town. It was written by Thomas E. Jones III and George Jackson. However, the song gained more popularity when it was used in the 1983 film, Risky Business.
The fact that Pablo was able to take on such a well-loved American classic, and completely rock it, was nothing less than impressive. The judges couldn’t hold back their excitement once he finished as well.
It goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover.
In fact, Pablo Lopez impressed everyone so much that he eventually won Mexico’s Got Talent that year. He’s a man that went from singing on the streets for next to nothing, to achieving a dream that most would find unimaginable.
Pablo’s classic audition of “Old Time Rock And Roll” is one that has everyone in love.
On one YouTube video alone it has over seven million views. Not too bad for a busker who refused to let his talent go unnoticed.
You really have to see Pablo’s inspiring performance to grasp how amazing he is.
