There’s nothing that warms our hearts more than young people with talent. At the Showbiz dance competition in Phoenix, Arizona, we saw exactly that.

A six-year-old girl danced to a classic song that we’ve all heard before — “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

It was one of the best youth dance performances that we’ve ever witnessed.

Six-year-old Harper Schwalb is the tiny star of the performance.

At the start of the video, the youngster walks to the middle of the stage dressed in a sparkly blue costume. Moments later, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” starts playing. It’s a song that was first made famous back in 1939 in the film The Wizard Of Oz.

The version of the Wizard Of Oz tune that was chosen for Harper’s routine, though, was different than normal.

It was sung in a child’s voice. For a performance like this one, it seemed quite fitting. There are many fun covers of “Over the Rainbow” out there, including one by English singer Connie Talbot. That’s what we heard here today. She’s the cutie who stole everyone’s heart on Britain’s Got Talent at the age of six, and now, she is inspiring other six year olds to dance.

During Connie’s audition, she actually sang “Over the Rainbow” and brought judge Amanda Holden to tears! The youngster’s debut album also features a “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” track.

It only makes sense that Harper’s dance is set to Connie Talbot’s rendition of the song.

It’s a breathtaking combination indeed. The tiny performer’s moves are slow, expressive, and show how gifted she is in the art of dance. Just by watching her, you can tell that she is a natural. Her skills are mind-blowing for a girl of such a young age.

Harper’s routine was choreographed by Aly Slone from Club Dance Studio. It mixes with the pace of the song beautifully and is made up of different techniques that pair well with the lyrics. According to LiveAbout:

“A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions, such as love, joy, romantic yearning or anger … Movements in lyrical dance are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another, holding finishing steps as long as possible.”

“Over the Rainbow” is a song that makes a lot of listeners think about hope.

Who can forget when Dorothy sang the words dreamily from her family’s farm in Kansas – or perhaps Pentatonix’s cover gives you chills. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version incorporates another powerful song, “What a Wonderful World.”
