A Tennessee woman’s fiancé came to her defense after she was asked to cover up or leave the pool at her apartment complex. Tori Jenkins was wearing a one piece pink bathing suit that had a high rise butt which management referred to as a “thong.”

“Today my fiancée was faced with either changing her bathing suit, covering up with shorts, or leaving the pool that we paid a $300 fee to maintain on top of a monthly rent of nearly $1000,” Tyler Newman wrote. “Tori was accused of wearing a ‘thong bathing suit’ and told there were complaints about the way she was dressed roughly 3 minutes tops of us arriving there.”

Here’s what her bathing suit looked like:

Yes, you can see her butt but it’s only a butt. Everyone has one.

The question Tyler was trying to ask is why women’s bodies are sexualized to the point of being inappropriate and why should women have to censor themselves so that men can act appropriately around them.

Not only was Tori being punished for her clothing choice but she was subsequently humiliated and shamed. When she went to the leasing consultant’s office to discuss the issue she was told to look in the mirror and look at her own body.

Here is another pic of the suit that someone posted on Facebook:

“The consultant told Tori that if she didn’t have kids herself, she wouldn’t understand,” Tyler explained on Facebook. “She was told that the leasing consultant wouldn’t want her own kids around Tori.”

Tori admitted to having a big butt and that 95 percent of the things she wears rides up on her, but she was told “a normal bathing suit covers your entire butt.”

As someone with a big butt, I can tell you this is NOT true. And most people’s bathing suits ride up their butt. You see people picking out wedgies left and right at the pool and beach.

Tori was also told that Tyler wasn’t allowed to spray her down her body with lotion in areas she couldn’t reach herself.

“She was told that her body, because it’s built more curvy than others is ‘too innapropriate’ for children to be around,” Tyler said. “She was told ‘there are a lot of teenage boys in this complex, and you don’t need to excite them.”

Tyler said he’s never witnessed a woman being that disrespected.

“Today my fiancée was told that she is less important than how men feel around her,” Tyler wrote. “That Tori is less important than a man’s urgers to be sexual towards her. I think she’s the most beautiful woman in the world, but I also respect her. I would never make her or any other woman feel less than what she’s worth because of her outfit of her looks. This is how rape culture continues to grow.”

Since then Tori has received an onslaught of negativity for defending herself. And most of those negative comments were about her body. What a surprise!

“The ENTIRE POINT of this post is that no man or woman has the right to make me feel uncomfortable in my own skin,” Tori wrote on Facebook. “No right to police me or any other human.”

Unfortunately, people continue to be oblivious to the fact that women don’t have to follow the rules society set out for them that says they have to be “perfect” or a certain size, and can only where certain things.

Those rules are harmful and give boys, men, and others a free pass to disrespect another human being based on their body or clothing. Despite all the negative backlash, she has been immensely supported by people who love her and is helping to open up people’s eyes to the fact that sexualizing and punishing women’s doesn’t benefit society.
