There’s been “end of the world” conspiracies ever since mankind has been able to speak. Somewhat recently, we’ve had some pretty big and scary ones! From Y2k when people were wearing tinfoil hats, to the Mayan Calendar theory in 2012, some people take them very seriously.
Seven siblings were discovered living in the basement on this farm in the Netherlands. When the oldest of the siblings bravely escapes getting help, after they’ve spent 9 years of waiting for the world to end!
Netherlands police discover 7 siblings living in a farm basement, with the man that told them it’s “the end of time”
When the eldest of the siblings showed up to a pub confused and disoriented, Chris Westerbeek, the owner of the pub couldn’t believe what he began telling him. He quickly drank 5 beers, all while telling Chris that he and his 6 siblings needed help.
He explained that the rest of his siblings were living in the basement on a farm nearby, Drenthe Province, they had been told it was the “end of the world” and had been living in horrible conditions for 9 years! The young man had finally had enough and escaped to find help for his sibling.
“He ordered five beers and drank them. Then I had a chat with him and he revealed he had run away and needed help. He said he had brothers and sisters who lived at the farm. He said he was the oldest and wanted to end the way they were living. Then we called the police.” Said Chris.
Adding another twist to the story, police found out the 58-year-old man living with the siblings, wasn’t their father
The 58-year-old man who had rented the farmhouse had been living with the 7 siblings in the basement, he managed to convince the siblings that they were the only humans left on earth.
The siblings lived in the farmhouse basement for 9-years, they were completely self-sufficient surviving with just a small vegetable garden and a few animals! It’s unclear how the kids are related to the 58-year-old man, or how he was able to convince them “the end of time” was near.
The 58-year-old man has since been arrested and the siblings have been taken to a safe place to live
The 58-year-old man was arrested along with a 67-year-old accomplice, they’re both in jail on a 14-day hold for the suspicion of “deprivation of liberty and harming the health of others.”
The townspeople were completely shocked by the discovery, The Mayor said: “I’ve never seen anything like it”
Mayor Roger De Groot addressed the towns, telling them that the sibling’s mother had died before they moved into the basement and they were now in a “safe” place.
