Life isn’t fair, but every once in a while someone gets what they deserve. This wealthy, corporate-looking middle-aged man wearing sporty sunglasses would probably read that sentence as a reference to him finally being able to make the payments on a mid-range convertible. But we all know what I’m really talking about.
I’m talking about all the corporate suits that walk among us, sucking our air and not giving back, seemingly with no consequences. It’s hard to see that guys like this convertible guy get to drive around in convertibles while the rest of us are held back by the obstacles that come with being kind, modest, patient, and in general, not jerks.
Fortunately, there are heroes among us. Take for example this impeccably dressed grandma. I know your first instinct is probably to raise your hackles at that kerchief; she looks like the enemy. But rest assured, the moment this old suit cautiously rests her prescription orthopedics at the edge of a small town crosswalk, she embarks on a hero’s journey equipped with only an over-sized orange handbag filled to the brim with justice, and maybe a cinder block, and probably some tissues.
Our hero proceeds across the street slowly, the bounce in her step having been steadily eroded by the sands of time. The mean man wearing aerodynamic sunglasses starts honking, thinking that if he throws his weight around like he does as the general manager of Xerox or whatever, this faded femme female will shuffle her swollen ankles across the road all the faster. What he doesn’t realize is that even though his convertible’s cramped quarters and questionable utility may remind him of the corporate setting in which he is oh-so-successful, he’s not in the office; his honks and beeps are futile except to signify his dutiful presence in the school of hard knocks, and our blue-clad heroine has prepared a rigorous syllabus.
To make a long story short, this major league ding dong gets what’s coming to him, restoring justice to the space-time continuum and confirming that while there is darkness in this world, there are also heroes who can light our paths to redemption.
If angry, miserable people have been putting a damper on your day, sit back and watch this classic clip.
