The Old With The New
While there were many new components added, some of the original parts were kept.
They decided to keep the original interior roofing of the barn, and it looks amazing. According to the experts when converting a barn to a home everything has to follow the scale of the barn. Which includes the doors, the windows and the lighting.
Uniqueness
The barn had interior bracing as part of its structure and this was utilized in the transformation, and it worked beautifully.
The Layout
The plan was to design the home with a rustic but contemporary design using Houzz.
The layout was an open concept. The kitchen was open and spacious with plenty of room for everything. It leads seamlessly into the living room
The bedrooms and bathroom are on the lower level. These were kept fairly simple and not oversized. The upper level is the living room and a reading area.
As soon as one enters the front door the stairs are there to lead people to the upper level where all the hub of the activity of the home takes place.
The design was such that it allowed for groups to hang out together in different parts of the home.
The Loft
It was decided to add a loft partly to provide more living space but also to provide a ceiling for the kitchen.
Heating and Cooling
The barn now home is easy to heat and cool as it depends on the latest technology for doing so.
Large Windows
Large windows add a lot of natural light and add warmth to the home. The new homeowners wanted to make it feel like the access to the outdoors was part of the inside.
Something New Out Of Something Old
The design of the barn into a home in this particular case is most impressive. It has taken something that is very old and totally modernized it, yet retained the atmosphere of the barn itself. It is a wonderful experience for Andrew and his family to be able to enjoy something that he did as a child that fits in with today’s modern living.
