Have you ever made anything with snow?
Maybe you’ve created a snowman, a snow angel, a house, a castle, animals, or humans. Or if you’re like Edward Scissorhands, you’ve created snow masterpieces.
Well, this family in Chadron, Nebraska may not have created a beautiful masterpiece of boxwood shrubs, but they have created a pretty awesome snow sculpture.
Yes, folks, they created a “Snowstang”.
They hand-carved a Ford Mustang out of snow. A LOT of snow.
It’s not just any Ford Mustang, either. It’s a snow replica of a 1967 Ford Mustang GTA.
43-year-old concrete plant manager Jason Blundell is a big Ford fan and performs a lot of Ford restoration projects, including a ’69 Mustang and a 1955 Ford Customline.
He also had a 1967 Ford Mustang GTA in his garage, which he and his family copied for the snow car.
Jason didn’t sculpt it alone, though.
He was helped by his two teenage children. This idea was born after one weekend of a foot-tall snowfall.
In order to make sure they had enough snow to create this cool snow sculpture, they shoveled neighbors’ driveways and added it to their snow pile.
This family knows snow sculptures.
They have created a lot of ambitious snow sculptures, including a giant Easter bunny and a 6-foot tall jack-o-lantern.
They even had a light inside their jack-o-lantern. Talk about commitment.
The sculptures only last about 3 days.
But they’re always worth it. Now, they’ve recreated one of their favorite cars with snow. Wow!
To make the snow car look authentic, they used a mix of concrete wood floats, ice scrapers, and a squirt bottle. It took them five hours to create it but they finished it.
What does anyone who’s proud of their work do?
They posted it online. Some people thought it was a real car buried in snow. It took them a while to realize that it was all snow.
One of the people who saw the photo online was a long-time friend of the family, Nebraska State Patrol Sgt. Mick Downing and he took this as a sign.
He planned to prank his friends.
Sgt. Downing took his “snowmobile” and parked it beside the snow replica. He issued a tow-away notice on the windshield.
Sgt. Downing took a video and posted it on the Nebraska State Patrol’s social media page.
Hundreds of thousands of followers watched the video and found the prank very funny. In fact, this video was given its own hashtag,
#SnowPony.
Everyone who saw the video loved Sgt. Downing’s sense of humor. That’s the thing, too. Jason and his family posted the photo because they were proud of their work.
They had no idea it would go viral.
What started out as a way to enjoy the big mounds of snow that fell over the weekend has turned into a creation that has now become immortalized.
Guess they’ll have to create something bigger to top off this one!
