Hospitals are typically places nobody wants to be. Not only do they typically indicate bad news, but they are also far from aesthetically pleasing.
Believe it or not, the aesthetic of the environment that you are in makes a huge difference in the way you feel. Just imagine the difference it would make if you look out of your door and see a smiling sun as opposed to a white wall.
A little cliché but you get my point.
One children’s hospital understands the importance of setting the tone of the environment. So much so that they decided to invest in making theirs one that pleases both the eye and the imagination.
In a video posted on Facebook by Leggari Products, a company based out of Washington, we get to see how they created a realistic portrayal of an underwater scene!
Spoiler alert, it’s so cool!
They use epoxy and layer the floor in multiple blues to create a deep-sea look. It’s layered perfectly.
Epoxy is a form of resin that has been a growing trend in home design. It is extremely durable and easy to maintain.
What’s even more amazing is how they make it look so easy.
First, they start with primer. They pour it onto the floor and use a roller to smooth it over the surface. It’s a simple baby blue color.
Then, they pour a darker base coat over the dried primer. They use some sort of water squeegee to spread and smooth it out. They complete it with some sort of special roller.
It’s oddly satisfying watching them smooth it over the floor. Yet horrifying when they step on it right after they pour it! You would think it would mess up what they just laid out but nope. It’s still as good as new.
After, they pour an even darker shade of blue down in sporadic areas on top of the base coat as a highlight. They use a roller to blend it in with the base.
But instead of the typical up-and-down motions, they use circular motions creating a wave-like design. It’s so awesome!
Lastly, to protect the floor from high traffic and to make it more durable, they spray it with gloss urethane with grit additive as a top coat.
The end result is a realistic portrayal of the ocean.
In addition to the floor, the walls were painted with underwater plants, fish, and other creatures from the ocean to complete the feel of being underwater.
The video was also posted on Youtube where it’s gotten over 22,000 views!
Judging by the comments, people really enjoy the finished look.
“That’s amazing! I can just see the kids touching the floor and laughing with joy!”
“Absolutely beautifully amazing!! Once again… I appreciate y’all.”
“You all do such great work!”
There were even people from other countries who wanted to know how they would be able to purchase the company’s products and even receive hands-on training!
It’s great to see how something like paint can bring different people together!
What do you think about the finished look? Would you want something like this in your home or office?
