Tattoos don’t define people. Their actions do.

That was the heartfelt message that Jordan Miller wanted to spread with a post on his Facebook account, which was quickly shared over a hundred thousand times. Jordan just had a conversation with his mom Misti Johnson, who works as a registered nurse.

She told him how difficult it was to find a job in some hospitals because of the ink on her body.

Although the stigma on tattoos on the workplace is decreasing, there are still many employers who would rather not employ someone with tattoos on his or her body regardless of their experience or qualifications.

According to the American Institute of Medical Sciences & Education, it is more widely accepted for people with tattoos to work in the hospital industry. However, the stigma still remains in certain situations, even if the tattoos are not offensive.

The nurse from Carrollton, Ohio, has multiple tattoos on her body and two ‘arm sleeves.’

Her son Jordan doesn’t have anything but praise for his courageous mother, as she gets up early every day, works extremely hard, and endures tough moments, never knowing what’s coming her way. More importantly, Misti saves lives.

“Jordan penned down his thoughts on the situation along with a picture of his mom after a shift, and the beautiful message has already amassed more than 170,000 likes.

Talking to my mom tonight (who is a registered nurse) and she was telling me about how strict some hospitals are when it comes to employees having tattoos. I must say I am kind of confused.

I’ve seen my mom pull a lady out of a car before it fills with smoke and she suffocates. I’ve seen her do stitches on an injured person on the side of the road following a car accident. I’ve seen her come home after a 12-hour shift, dead tired after dealing with an abusive patient all day, and get back up and do it again the next day. She’s come home after holding a baby in her hands and watching it take their last breath. She’s saved a drug addicts life after overdosing in the hospital bed.

Tattoos don’t define the person.

My mom has more tattoos than I can count and it has never, ever affected her work ethic. She will wake up at the same time every day and save a life.”

Misti never expected to see such an incredible response on her proud son’s post. She says she’s “beyond honored” after receiving national attention and compliments.
